Does anyone else think that Disney may be using the announcement of DVC at the Fort to distract from the cost, sky high taxes and parking at the VDH?

"Distract"? No. I don't know what purpose that serves. Either people like VDH or they don't.

I DO think that the cabins represent another destination that sales guides can gently suggest will not be available to resale buyers. In the span of a week, we went from one resort that was confirmed blocked from resale (Riviera) to 2 confirmed, 1 that will eventually be added (cabins) and another that seems increasingly likely (Poly.) To borrow a phrase, that's a lot more carrots for Guides to dangle in front of prospects than they had just a few days ago.

They announced Poly tower last year right after VGF sales began. So, this seems to be just the same play...add give more info at a strategic time to add to the conversation when selling direct.

And the TOT isn’t something they really had much say in…and it seems like it made more sense logically to not roll it into dues.

Agreed.. I support their decision to not roll it into the dues but god it's still painful 😢

It is and TBH, I knew there was one when visiting AUL, but I had no idea that VGC owners were paying this as part of their dues...I wonder how many actual VGC owners are aware of this when they buy?

The way things are going it is quite possible they will be selling RIV, VGF2, VDH, PVB2, cabins at FW and Aulani direct at the same time. That’s unheard of.

About how much would taxes be for a week stay in a one bedroom at the California place?

According to the chart I saw, for a one bedroom in the summer, the tax would be about $835 for a week.

That is an absolutely crazy number.

Plus 306 points.

It's insane to me. I'm a soon-to-be resale owner and don't have the opportunity to stay there but wouldn't even if I could.

I don't think the conversion of cabins to DVC was a distraction from the VDH info, however I do think the TIMING of the announcement was strategic to balance the negativity regarding the VDH. I can imagine they've been sitting on the news about the cabins until x date, but when the VDH news received such an uproar, that date got pushed up to "Let's announce tomorrow." That seems more likely than it being planned the way it actually happened. Spin control.

No - one WDW announcement - One DL announcement, I don't think they care about the negative few on the internet. They can't control the tax and VDH will still sell.

While they can’t control the fact that the tax exists, the application to VDH is much different than VGC, and seems to be 6 times more. Other than the fact that one is in the annual dues and one isn’t, what is driving that big difference?
