I don't know since you will be in a hotel before, but we think we either had to go to check in or get a room ready text. We arrived, and had two rooms. My dad got a text saying his room was ready, I did not. We went to lunch, without going to the resort. When they scanned his band, it worked, when they scanned mine, it didn't. The manager said she would call the resort and get it all worked out, which she did, so not sure if there was another issue or if it had to do with us not officially having a room yet. The reservations were all made together, same credit card, both with online check in.
In the future, we will go to the front desk if we don't get a room ready text to be safe. Although, in your case where it may interfere with park time, I'm not sure what I would do. If it works into your schedule I would, if not I'd just chance it. I'm sure they can always take care of it, even if you would have to pay, then they credit it back after talking to someone.
