I've never done this before and have some questions.
On our last day, we have breakfast scheduled at AK for 8 a.m., so can we check in our luggage at the airline check in before we leave & the leave the luggage with bell services that we will be carrying on the plane?

Also, what is an appropriate amount to tip for the airline check in service?

Thanks!

These past trips we have always done the resort airline check in with great results.
Yes you can check your bags but it must be 3 hrs before your flight. Make sure you can check your bags on time or they will just tell you to take them with you on the ME. You have to have anyone that is adult be with you when you do the airline check in and have them have there ID's ready.I'm not sure about what age you are required to show your ID'S but I always brought my son up to do the airline check in with me.
As for the front desk holding your stuff for you I see no reason why they would not just make sure to bring your valuables with you.

One word of big caution if you plan on bringing your own bags to the airline check in you can borrow the Luggage carts. When my sister was unfolding the cart to be able to put the luggage on the cart the cart slipped and it sliced her finger wide open . I thought it looked really bad so we went to the front desk to report the injury. They said thats the 4th time that has happened in a few months and offered us band aids. She was ok just woozy from her wound. I took her back to our room,I then wrapped her wound with first aid gauze that I brought with on our trip for those just in cases. Now she says shes never touching a cart ever again.
Have fun on your vacation.

We checked our luggage at the desk, then left our carry-ons with the valet. Came back for ME late in the day. Worked great.

Be sure that you keep your ME voucher with your tickets (the letter they slip under your door will work) as you will need something for the ME bus driver.
I put my ME tickets in my checked baggage but the letter was OK.

We used the airline check-in on our trip to BWV for the 1st week in January.

On our last day, we called Bell Services to come get our luggage. We had 2 suitcases that went into checked luggage, a carry-on bag, laptop, and 2 coats that we were carrying on the plane.

We escorted the bellman to the airline check-in desk at BWV. We checked in with the airline check-in desk. DH and I both showed our identification, and received our boarding passes.

We double checked that our checked luggage was taken care of until we got back to Atlanta, and made sure that the luggage tags were attached.

We received our boarding passes and put these in our carry-on bags.

Then our 2 checked pieces went in with airline check-in, and our 4 carry-on pieces (2 cases, 2 coats) went to bell services. It didn't take long, and the bellman was happy to wait 2 minutes so that we wouldn't have to keep up with our boarding passes all day in the parks.

We then went and spent a lovely day at the MK, making the rope drop ceremony at 9am.

We got back to BWV about an hour before our scheduled ME pick up time and hung out at the resort. (Our choice.) About 15 minutes before ME pick up time, we picked up our 4 items from Bell Services. About 5-10 minutes before pick up time, we found a place to go that we could see the ME bus arrival. At some point we took our boarding passes out of our checked luggage.

Our ME pick-up time was 5:20 p.m. ~ and the bus showed up at 5:20 p.m. (not 5:17, not 5:23) I was impressed!

The bus driver was aware that he was picking up exactly 2 people at BWV. The bus driver happily stored our 2 bags under the bus. The bus driver then drove to CBR and arrived at exactly 5:30 p.m, to pick up another family. He then used the same routine of putting items under the bus. He then took the CBR people to side A at the airport, and then dropped us off at Side B. He also knew that since we were flying Delta that we needed to get off at Side B. At this point, we had plenty of time. We went through security, to the Disney store, and then had a meal at the Outback Steakhouse. (It was good, but not as good as any of the regular Outback's.) Outback asks for your flight time before you are seated. After that, we had a few minutes before our flight. We left Orlando at 8:20 EST. We landed in Atlanta, quickly picked up our checked bags, and headed home, having a very magical trip to the mouse.

Everything worked very smoothly.

Interesting question, and thank you for asking! The staffers at the Resort Airline Checkin counters are the equivalent of the Skycaps at the airport and, in fact, work for the airport.
Given this, yes, tipping should be determined at the same rate as if the Guest were using curbside checkin at the airport - usually $1 or $2 per bag.

We too checked in our luggage early, and then had our carryon's held by bellhops. It was wonderful and we had no problems.

Airline check-in at the hotel is a great service and usually works like a charm - but our bags never made it to the plane on time about 1 1/2 weeks ago. They were checked 6 hours before our flight. We eventually had them delivered the following day.

This is correct and think some folks don't realize it. (Of course the BAGs rep at BWV remembered to point this out.) RAC is the same as curb side checkin and a tip of $1.50 - $2.00 per BAG is appropriate.

I still contend this was not necessarily the fault/responsibility of Resort Airline Checkin. Last month, my luggage - which was AT the airport with me, six hours before my flight left - never made it onto the plane... and this was on an outbound flight, not my flight home (that airport wait was a mere five and a half hours)

Wow! I don't think it dawned us to give the Airline check-in folks anything, AND THEY DIDN"T ASK!

Does anyone know if you can use this service if you're not staying at a Disney resort...since the service is provided by the airport and not Disney?

I wasn't aware that these folks were not Disney CMs the first time until someone on the boards pointed it out to me. While at the BWV in October the BAGs Rep actually said to the person in front of me that this is curb side service and please take care of the employee helping you with your bags. It sorta took me by surprise, but I knew ahead of time and had my tip ready, I just didn't expect to hear her says it point blank. This is a great service and I happily will tip the expected amount for this service. After hearing her say this is curb side service, it dawned on me, it was.
