using points w/2 DVC families sharing room

Hi everyone-

We just became members in SEptember and this is still new to me. My sister in law's family are also DVC members and would like to vacation w/my family. We want to reserve a two bedroom villa at Wilderness Lodge for October 2003. How do we reserve it so that we can split the points. (i.e. 252 points-how do we reserve it so that we each use 126 of our points)?

Her family's home resort is HHR and my family's home resort is BCV's.

You can each reserve 1/2 of the nights you'll need, thus using an equal number of points... or one family can transfer 126 to the other and then make the whole reservation themselves.

Since neither owns at VWL, this can all be done at 7 months before you wish to travel.

A 2 bedroom at VWL in October 2003 requires 32 points (Sun - Thurs) and 61 points (Fri & Sat) - totaling 282 for the week.

In your post you state 252 points. Do you mean 282 points? Or 6 nights for 250 points (282 - 32)?

If you're reserving for 7 nights (282 points), there's no way to evenly split the points by nights. You could do it Doc's way and have one person make the whole ressie and transfer half the points back to their account. Or one person can reserve Sat - Mon for 125 points and the other person can reserve Tues - Fri for 157 points. Then have the 2 ressies linked together. This is assuming that the trip begins and ends on Saturday. The second person can either "owe" the differrence of 16 points for a next trip or transfer them to the first person's account.

If the trip is for 6 nights (assuming 2 weekend nights at the beginning or end of the week), each member can reserve 3 nights with a weekend night in each ressie. And have the 2 ressies linked again. But be aware that if each person books one weekend night for the same weekend, I'm not sure if you would need to go down to the front desk 2 times.

Based on whether or not your SIL is planning on vacationing in HH or WDW for her next trip, she may find it more advantageous to make the 7 month ressie at VWL with her HH points and have 141 or 125 BVC points transferred to her account so she can have the 11 month window for BVC. (Read previous posts on the limitations of transferring points and the 11 month window)

We did this one time with friends. We decided on the days & then split the points in half. The other person put the points into my account.

Something to think about - do you both have the same use year? That will make a difference when using points.

One disadvantage to transferring points is it could get messy if you have to change or cancel. You would have more flexibility if each reserved some nights and maybe just transfer the difference if it willn't break out evenly.
