Using points outside the system

We are thinking about buying additional points. We already have enough points for our Disney fix. We would use these points offsite. I have not seen a lot of talk about how easy it is to use the exchange program. Does anyone use the points offsite? How easy is it to use the exchange programs?

Any insights on this would be appreicated.

It is rather easy if you don't use the most popular sites. We have traded to several Marriotts-HH, Williamsburg and CA. We have gone to NYC and Washington using the per night locations. I hear that HI is very hard to get but would like to go there sometime. You will probably get more information later today from many with their trades. We keep hearing that trading is not a good use of points so I would suggest you look into buying another timeshare for those trades. The money you save not buying more points probably would pay for it. We will probably trade some more in the future but always keep WDW our prime location.

Since you already have enough points for your "Disney fix", I would also suggest you either pay cash for your non-Disney vacations or buy another less expensive timeshare for trading. DVC is one of the more expensive timeshares - its real value comes from using it to stay at one of the DVC resorts.

IMHO, you'd be better off economically if you bought something else for trading.

Best wishes -

I would concur. Buying sites for non DVC options is simply a poor choice, the best you could hope to do is break even. Look at cash alternatives where you'll have more control, more choices and likely less cost. Also look at other timeshare opportunities.
