using points for non Disney stays

New DVC member. I was just curious as to 'if' and 'how often, people use their points for places other than Disney?? Of course I am so excited about WDW but my DH seems to love looking into other places we can go. Just curious.

We are also new members and my DH is also looking at all the other places we can go! I am happy with just WDW! We do have our first trip as members planned for Vero Beach. We are really interested in going to The Sagamore on Lake George. Maybe in 2006. It isn't the best/smartest use of points but, oh well! DH doesn't fly so we can only go to the places that are in drivable distances! I see us using points for WDW every year along with a trip to either Vero or HH. Maybe adding in a trip to one of the resorts in the Concierge collection every once and awhile.

You can also use them for the cruise. We did that. Again, many will tell you not the best use of points but we really enjoyed the cruise and it was very easy doing it via Member servies.

We used points for a Disney cruise a couple of years ago and last year for a stay in the Grand Californian at Disneyland. Not something I'd do much.

My in-laws (also DVC members) have used their points to stay at the Plaza Hotel in NYC.

We are going to use ours for a weekend at the Grand Hotel on Mackinac (Mackinaw) Island in Michigan in October, 2005.
