Can anyone tell me if it is difficult to use your points at the Hotels? For example, if your home base is VWL, how tough is it to book a 5-night stay at the Grand Floridian or Polynesian seven months out?

Huge Disney Fan!!

We used points to stay at POR last year.We waited to make reservations for the week after Thanksgiving and all the dvc resorts were full. Had no problem making the reservations and did enjoy staying there. Good luck. Patsy:D

Why wait until 7 months? For the Disney Collection resorts at WDW (including the Grand Floridian and Polynesian), the booking window is from 11 months to 2 days in advance.

Availability should be excellent at 11 months. Availability will diminish as cash guests make reservations, but could be available until 2 days in advance if the resort is not fully booked.

The usual warning applies that your points go further at the DVC resorts. But using the Disney Collection allows you to enjoy stays at deluxe WDW resorts with your existing DVC "investment" instead of having to spend additional money.

We also like to use some DVC points for WDW deluxe resort stays.
There is one more word of caution to add to Werner's, and that is the cancellation policy. Those points become 'reservation points', and can no longer be used for the DVC resorts. They also can not be banked.
As long as you are aware of the limitations, the Disney Collection is a fun way to use your points!
