Which of the DisneyLand hotels would you choose to stay in if you were using DVC points to pay for the trip? Would you take the DisneyLand Hotel that takes fewer points, Paradise Pier that is in the middle or splurge with those points and stay at California Adventure?

Last June we used our points to stay at the Grand Californian. It was beautiful and so convenient. We enjoyed the stay and would be happy to do it again.

We'll be spending three nights at the Disneyland Hotel in September...using points for the stay. Out of the three choices we were really only interested in the Disneyland Hotel and the Grand Californian. We've stayed at WDW's Wilderness Lodge several times and felt the GC would be very similar so we went with the DLH. We can't wait!

I am using DVC points for 2 rooms at the DLH at the end of August. I had read that the rooms are smaller at GC, so it was a choice between PP and DLH. I had enjoyed my previous stay at DLH and didn't want to have regrets if I didn't like PP as well as DLH. So I went with DLH.

Plus the kids are big swimmers and we will take breaks each day for a swim. Neverland pool is by far the best choice of pools for the three hotels. Even though we could use the pool at DLH if we stayed at PP, it will be more convenient this way.

I am sure we will be very happy with our choice!

Stayed at DLH on points last summer & loved it. Room overlooked pool which kids loved and the theme decorating in the room was nicer than we expected. Kids are still talking about the glow in the dark Tink wallpaper. Plus the nightly electric water show was great as was walking around the waterfall area.

We've stayed at the Grand Californian twice and the DL hotel twice. I loved the DL hotel. I love the Grand Californian even more! I love the decor of the Grand California--gorgeous marble inlays. A fabulous lobby area with an enormous fireplace. The rooms are very nice.

The Grand Californian is the most convenient hotel to CA Adventures AND DL and also the shopping area they have created.

If I had to pick between the 3 hotels, I would pick the Grand Californian!

The GC is worth the extra points. The hotel is beautiful and you are in the CA. DL is a very short walk. We would love to stay there again.:)

RweTHEREyet,
I have been rumaging around trying to find pictures of the Grand Ca hotel. Anyway, I was fascinated by the level of attention Disney paid to the smallest details. This is the marble inlay on the elevator floor. This theme is a continuation of the theme in the lobby. Even if you don't stay the GC, it is definately worth a visit! It is absolutely gorgeous!

laughingplace.com did a great photo spread on the Grand Californian; here's a link to their site's GC pages. Haven't stayed there yet, but planning on it when we next get to California!

We stayed at the Grand Californian on points and would do it again in a heartbeat. We asked for a room with bunk beds and thus had a little more floor space.

As for the other two hotels, I don't think you will go wrong in choosing one of the them. All three are very close to the parks.

We stayed at the paradise pier, and it is a really nice hotel, but that is what it feels like is a "hotel." It fits in really nicely with the theme of that portion of california advenuture. You could see the parade from there. The CMs were wonderful, and the room was large and spacious.

That said, my wife and I decided that whenever we go back to disneyland the grand californian is where we will want to stay. The convinience of that hotel is unbeatable - both theme parks are a very short walk, and downtown disney is right outside! For families with small children or toddlers, I really can't think of a better way to take a disney vacation. Also, you can ride grizzly rapids a dozen times straight and walk right back to your room to put on dry clothes:)

I am a big fan of wilderness lodge, but to me GC is different enough not to seem too similar - it isn't as "western-y" as the WL, or as "Campy." It is more of an Arts and Crafts style than an emulation of a NW national park - it seems Frank Loyed Wright inspired sort of. To me, the wilderness lodge seems so relaxed, so "Frontierland Disney" and the GC seems much more "refined."

FWIW, though, the bar in paradise pier has a much, much better beer selection than the bar in GC.

If you really want disneyland nostalgia, though, go with the disneyland resort - it isn't much less convenient than the GC (neither is paradise peir for that matter).

Oh, one last thing, Paradise pier seems a little bit of a better choice for adults or couples than the disneyland resort does.
