Using points for a disney cruise...

Experienced cruisers know that there are always great deals on cruises. A huge number of cabins on every cruise are sold by cruise specialists or consolidators -- some through your local travel agent, and others online. If you buy from the cruise line -- any cruise line -- you are paying the equivalent of a hotel's "rack rate."

I saw a post on another thread in the last couple of days where a guy had gotten a 7-day Disney Cruise to the Eastern Caribbean for $599 per person. I'm not sure of his accommodations, or his embarkation date, but $599 per person! He mentioned saving $1,000 by paying cash and buying outside of Disney. And that was not through some fly-by-night outfit -- that was through Expedia.

I ended up having to cancel one of my 2 bedrooms last year. My extra points had to be used in that use year. Since I wouldn't be back within the year I did rent them out. It was to a wonderful family and other then not hearing from them for a few weeks (stress) it worked fine. My point is I didn't purchase points to wheel and deal them. As a matter of fact I think if that continues (at 10 dollars a point) we will only devalue our own investment. If everyone knows they can get a "Home away from Home" for a fraction of the cost why pay Disney? If the property value goes down who loses? I try not to kick myself in my own ...!
Meanwhile I'll let you know next week how my "for points" cruise goes!!!!

Have fun Lakeariel! :cool1:

I don't like stress ither. :worried: :guilty: I am just ready for Vacation and the Martinis? :hyper:

JimMIA,

Thank you for that important point....Uh... let's hope I don't have to cancel and if I do....Uh...O well... Grand Floridian, Animal Kingdom, Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Concierge Level, Holland America or maybe another Disney Cruise or any other of the many we have to pick from.......HERE I COME :rotfl:

I am sure I won't complaint :tilt: This might be the only chance I get to really indulge in luxury. Wouldn't want to loose value on my points again. :goodvibes

Don't worry......... be happy :duck:

I spoke to my guide recently, and he indicated that the cruise points were to be going down for 2006 - in the order of 6% is what I think he said. He said that since they (DVC) pay DCL in cash, points fluctuate year to year based on what they are getting for rentals.
That would be a surprise - a welcome one, I'm sure! (And about time, too)! If it's true than the points required to stay at other non-DVC options should go down, too!

All that said, personally, I will believe it when I see it published - guides are notorious for incorrect "predictions".

My middle name should have been "Thomas", I guess. LOL. :teeth:

Best wishes -
