We just got our member guide for 2009, and saw that we can use points at Fort Wilderness. Can we buy the DDP while staying there? We have bought the plan for the last three years while using points, at other resorts, so we are hoping this would be possible while camping.

Just called Member services, we can buy the plan while staying at the Fort while using points. MS said as of January 1, 2008, this was changed!!
Looks like we are camping next year!!

But you have to pay a $95 fee to book a campsite over there on DVC points. Hardly worth it for the price of the campsites.

Yes. but paying 95.00 to camp a week, where we have always wanted to, no big deal. If it gets me back to my favorite vacation spot, oh well. This is especially good because it was my husband's idea! I can never get him to agree to go two years in a row, since we are going in July 08 to AKL, I never thought I would get him back the next year.

We once stayed in a FW cabin for one night. We arrived on December 29th a day early and the only rooms available were a couple of Presidential type suites at over $1,000 a night and a FW cabin. Well it was just DH and I and we really loved the peaceful atmosphere of the cabin and FW in general. It is on our list as a must do again. There is so much to do there and now with the rumor's of the new theme pool. Wohoo!

It's good to know that you can add the dining plan on to non-DVC points stays. Although I don't think the plan is quite as good as it used to be.

Sounds like fun. If I am understanding this correctly, you pay $95 to camp plus points, am I correct? How many points per night?

Depending on the season it is from 6-10 points for Sunday through Thursday and from 11-19 points for Friday-Saturday so from 52 to 89 points for a week at a campsite with full hook-up plus the $95 fee. Don't know what the regular rates are so don't know if it is a good deal or not.

$159 for mid july for a full hook up for sun to thurs. (you didn't say when and for how long)

might actually be worth saving your points and paying the 160 bucks or whatever it costs for how long your staying and use the points the next time you stay at the resort.

Thank you, is there a site that posts the points needed for non-dvc disney resorts? Just curious...

And remember once booked, these points become reservation points.

I am a firm believer, though, in using your points as you want to. I cruise on points and also use them at Disneyland. So enjoy! :)

using our points for the Fort, gets me back next year, unexexpectedly, so even with the 95 charge and points used, it is worth it. Every year I have to convince my husband that we "need" to go back to WDW, so when he saw the DVC gude and realized we could use points, he was all over the idea. It was kind of like a subliminal message, that I didn't even have to orchestrate! I can understand that some DVC folks do not want to use their points at non-DVC resorts, but for us this is going to work for us. We were going to bank our leftover 08 points anyway, so now we don't have to.

we are going what will be our kids Spring Break 09, the week before Easter, if the prices are the same, we are talking about 70 a night so for 7 nights, plus the 95, around 560 or so, definetly worth it for us, we were not going anyway, and we have already stayed at all of the DVC properties, so we thought why not try the Fort, two of our loves, camping and Disney!

My mom has been trying to get a reservation using her points with no luck. How far in advance do you need to book using your points for a campsite? :thanks:
