I'm planning on doing a Disney trip at the end of the year but not staying on Disney property until 4 days after I arrive in Orlando. I'm staying 6 nights in Disney property. Can I purchase a 10 day park hopper and use it before I check in?

Yes. Purchase it separately from a room-only onsite reservation.

There are a number of 3rd party ticket sellers who sell Disney multi-day tickets at a discounted price.

Ok great. We were just gonna stay offsite the entire week but we just noticed free dining might be available the week we are going but it doesn't start until the 4th day we're there. We're just gonna stay purchase the day day park hopper through a Disney reservation and use it in advance of our check in. Where can we go to activate the magic band if we go before we check in to a Disney resort?

Free dining is usually offered in conjunction with a package, with a ticket purchase requirement. If you are hoping for free dining, do not purchase a ticket before any offer is announced.

What if I decided to get annual passes before hand? Can I use that instead of a standard package to still get free dining?

There's usually a 2 day ticket minimum for discount offers. But if you get an AP, the AP discount may work out just as well as a dining discount.

You'd still need a minimum ticket purchase. But, you can upgrade those tickets to an AP when you reach the parks.

For free dining, you'll have to purchase a ticket as part of the package to qualify. You can walk up to any guest services window and activate a ticket 10 days prior to your package starting. And you can upgrade it to an annual pass at that time (or any time before the ticket expires).
