Using Online Check In ~ paying balance with GC

Hi all! I have two consecutive room only reservations at YC and BC. I have never used online check-in before and it looks pretty straightforward but I just had the wild idea to pay off my room balance at arrival with discounted Disney gift cards (instead of just charging it to my credit card). If I run the math and decide this is a better way to go, should I not do online check-in? I could go to the desk either way anyway, but I wonder if our flight runs late or whatever else happens I will be automatically checked in and assigned a room and the balance will be charge to my card. What do you think? Thanks!

I usually call disney a few days before our arrival to pay off the room with gift cards. I have sometimes been able to do this using the automated system, sometimes had to talk to a person. I'm not sure that not doing online checkin would prevent them from charging your credit card before you arrive. From previous stays I already have a card linked to my account. It's been so long since I have not prepaid that I don't remember the process!

You can combine disney gift cards online so that you would have fewer numbers to give them over the phone. (disneygiftcard.com)

I'm not sure that not doing online checkin has anything to do with them charging your credit card before you arrive.

It actually does. In order to do Online Check In you have to enter a valid Credit Card. If there's a valid Credit Card tied to your MDE account, they will charge the balance of the room only charges to that Credit Card early in the AM of Check In day.
