You need to disable mobile data. It's under Settings > General > Network the change Mobile Data to "off" guarantee it is turned off.
You can also turn data roaming off on the same Menu but I do both to be sure.

I think if you put it on Airplane Mode, it turns everything off, including calls and texts, and data usage.

You can then turn your wifi back on, if it's been turned off, and you will be able to use it.

Yep airplane mode basically turns it into an iPod touch.

As said you can then put wifi and Bluetooth back on without worrying about calls or mobile data charges :)

:goodvibes

Can you use face time just via Wi-Fi thereby removing the need to spend on texts and calls between I phones where there is a Wi Fi signal. We have x4 I phones and may split up but within WDW property.

Yes, but the wifi is SUPER slow expecially for facetime.

If you have i-Phones then you can just send a text and it will be sent as a imessage. This runs free of charge over even slow wifi

That's excellent. Thank you for replying x

Just tagging onto this thread.

If I wana call home (uk) i need to check voda prices I assume.

If I'm in a restaurant could we wifi FaceTime my mom at home with iPad ?
Why do you say wifi is slow over there ?

Lastly, in parks if we split up, can I call the wife, iPhone to iPhone and what would call be classed as - usa to usa ?

The Wi-fi in the parks is slow because of the sheer numbers trying to use it. I would not rely on any form of calls over the wifi to keep in touch. Even the resorts can be hit and miss for speed and connection.

iPhone to iPhone use iMessage as that is delivered via wifi.

If you call it will be at roaming rates.

I imagine that it is so slow in the parks and hotels due to the huge volume of people using it.

We facetimedin parks and resort last oct with no problems and the year before in okw as well, both on ipads and iphones

You must have struck lucky - it took me 20 mins to do OLCI for our flights home in MK and some days I could bearly check email

We Skype'd my DH's two sons last year from the resorts and the parks which had wifi at the time.

The picture sometimes 'broke up' a wee bit, but was a good way to chat to them back home, and let them see where we were.

We used our iPhones with the headphones plugged in to be able to hear.

This is great to know. It will be DD's birthday whilst we are out there and I'm sure DD will love to FaceTime granny and grandad from MK!
