Using Gift Cards to Pay for Meals

I think most of us are talking about using Disney Gift cards

Not so sure about that but since OP didn't specify Disney GC vs Amex/visa/Mc GC i threw my 2 cents in.

I like the idea of a different GC per day for budgeting. I'll probably just use my magic band and then "settle up" my account with GC back at resort. I do plan on using my Disney Visa at the few restaurants that offer a discount though.

What? I don't understand what you mean? I use all my gift cards down to the last penny.

These were first AmEx gift cards and then after a while Visa ones. They were not Disney gift cards. Since they were from someone else and through his company, we used them until Disney vendors told us we couldn't anymore even though we still had dollars on them. One Cast Member said there had to be a buffer on the cards for a tip if we used for a table service meal but who knows if that was correct. We just used until couldn't use anymore and then got out another one. Husband carried one, I carried another.

Just curious to know if you choose to tip using a GC, how is the server's tip deducted? Do you have to do it manually or do they get their tip same as cash somehow? I'd be upset to know that using one throughout the day to pay & tip with that is used until there's nothing left without deducting the tips would mean no tips for the servers.

It's just like any other restaurant. You write the tip on the tip line and it gets deducted from the gift card. You just need to make sure you have enough on the gift card to cover the tip.

If you have a Kroger in your area, a good thing to do is purchase your gift cards when they have 4x fuel points. So, you get a bonus of cents off for gas, if you drive.

I prefer to use my Magic Band to charge everything to our room account. It is so convenient. Then every few days I go to concierge and apply the gift card to the room balance. Nothing to worry about,
You can do this with meals, tips, souvenirs and it is very easy and convenient.

DH and I prefer doing this as well because we find it convenient and like getting the printout of what we have spent.
