Using EBT getting NO coupons at checkout!

Actually, sort of an issue again, EBT customers being treated differently, since something is going on with EBT for food here now. The larger Mini-Marts and small individually owned specialty grocery stores recently posted hand written signs that say "We no longer accept EBT for Food". The big chains still do. Not sure what's up.

What's up is they cannot afford to pay someone to process the paperwork required to accept it, or that was the issue when I worked grocery years ago. Smaller stores lost money paying someone to do the required government paperwork.

There was a lot of fraud at small, individually-owned stores. I saw one where they "sold" 2,500 gallons of milk every day. In reality, they were charging someone for $500 worth of milk and handing them cash. They probably have more paperwork now.

Perhaps the items being purchased are not qualifying for the printed coupons. I've noticed over the last few months that I'm getting fewer of them then I did before, so perhaps they are becoming less frequent?

Now I think about it, the little stores don't have scanners, they just enter the price in on the cash register. So they only know they sold a $3 item. The big stores have computerized scanners that know that the customer purchased $3 worth of broccoli.
The worst paperwork has to be with WIC, since it has to be done at the time of sale, at the checkout, while other customers wait.

Hey! A zombie thread I started!! Whoot Since it's here I will update. The children in our care were returned to their parent after a year of being here. They seem to be happy and doing well, we kept our foster licence up for an extra year to be prepared if they needed to return but so far so good. No more EBT here but it helped where it was needed!

I realize this was a zombie thread, but I just wanted to add that I would bet it was due to government regulations. I worked in a new pharmacy that gave customers a gift card for transferring a prescription. By law, we were not allowed to give the gift card to anyone who had government financed insurance, and it was actually a very hefty fine if you were caught doing so. (Can't even begin to count how many cussings that earned me)

Just back from the store, and got behind a lady with both WIC and EBT. A few minutes delay while they processed the WIC coupons, but I was very pleased to see she was:
1) Shopping at Walmart to get more for her money
2) Buying the "Price First" lowest cost milk since there is absolutely no difference in any brand name milk.
3) She had a very healthy selection of foods.

I just get so burned up when I see someone buying $4.99 a gallon milk instead of the $2.19 a gallon milk, and then have the belt covered with Fritos and other non-essential and unhealthy foods.
