Occasionally I hear or see in the promotional materials for the DVC that you can stay in non-DVC Disney resorts. What are the point requirements for these other resorts?

We just returned from WDW and I asked one DVC kiosk people and he told me that you could do that but that he wasn't allowed to tell me about it.

We are interested in researching purchasing into DVC but would like to know about this.

Thanks.

/I'm sure this is covered by another thread in here, I'm just not smart enough to find it.

You can stay at non DVC resorts onsite, but it is not the best use of your points. They are quite pricey as far as points go, more than 3x per nite the points versus a DVC studio in some cases.

As of Jan 1 the fee to book this goes up to $95 per reservation as well. I have only done it when there was nothing available with DVC and I absolutely HAD to have a room on points.

Disney hotels do eat up lots of points. I think CBR and POR are anywhere from 16-40 points a night depending when you go and whether or not your trip is tied to a Friday/Saturday night stay. The deluxe hotels are 29 to almost 200 points a night!!!! Just to give you some perspective, at SSR for a week in low season for 182 points to 316 points at Christmas time. To stay in a garden view room for a week at GF in low season would be 344 points and Christmas time...gulp...851 points!!!!!!!

We just booked five nights at FW in a cabin for 160 points. It's only a month until we leave and DVC had rooms for two nights at BWV and then another two nights at SSR. We decided to spend about fifty points more to stay at a non DVC resort as we didn't want to move around. FW is where we went when I was a child so I'm really excited about staying there. I wouldn't do this very often, but it was nice to have the option available. I'm glad we're doing this before they implement the $95 fee.:goodvibes

why in the world can they not tell you about staying at non-dvc resorts on points. Its part of the the benefits isnt it?

It might be because the point per room costs for DVC rooms are pretty much locked in place, while the costs for non DVC rooms can go up and up (and do). They probably don't want someone going home and thinking they can get into the Poly for "X" points and being upset next year when it turns out to be twice that!

The OP said that the question was asked of somebody at a DVC kiosk. That could explain the mystery. The folks at the kiosks are maddeningly secretive -- they are just trying to recruit people to take a tour with a guide. It is the guide who will provide you with the details.

The kiosk wranglers are not allowed to talk purchase or point information. They are not licensed real estate agents. There job is to get you to the "Preview Center".

I really liked having the option to book a non-dvc room, it worked out really well when we extened trips, and DVC was booked or only had a day here and 2 days there (I just don't like moving around). But that new $95 fee kills it for me. :sad2:

As for the kiosk CM's the previous posts have it, their job is to get you to the guides.:confused3

Tell me if I am wrong. The $95 fee you speak of is for "non-disney" bookings. Ex - hotel in New York. As long as you use your points at a "disney resort" you do not have a fee for booking.

As of January 1, the $95 booking fee will apply to ANY NON DVC reservation except Disneyland. This would include any resorts as part of the "Disney collection" - which are non-DVC (but still Disney) resorts at WDW. It was part of the "simplifying" announced in the Fall DVC Magic magazine by Jim Lewis.:sad2: So - it went from no cost to $95 for these resorts. A lot of us are unhappy about it, even if we don't use it currently. It means that even if we needed one night - it would be $95 to use the points.
