Using dvc points after down payment. Can I do that??

I want to book a cruise using cash and dvc points. We have points that we need to use or we lose them. I want to book asap when our time opens tomorrow to get the best possible room. Would I be able to book online to put the down payment in then call dvc at a later date to use points for the rest??? Thanks!!

In order to use any DVC points for a cruise, you must book through DVC, essentially using DVC as your travel agent. I do not know if it is possible to transfer a reservation to DVC after it is made.

Another option is to use a DVC third-party booking agency to rent your points and use the money earned to pay for a cruise. It appears some agencies will act as travel agencies and take care of all of the details for you, but I don’t know if they can do early bookings. You could certainly book a cruise and then work separately to rent your points.

I believe the only way you can book using DVC points is through Member Services. As PP mentions, you could rent your points and book directly with DCL paying cash. But if you want to use the points to pay for the cruise it has to be originally booked via DVC.

Hey y’all! I had a cruise booked in October 2020 before they cancelled it. I had called member services to book my cruise using points and cash but this time I am looking to book as soon as the booking online is open. I don’t want to be waiting on the phone with member services and lose out on a room.

So I know I will need to call them to use the dvc points I was just hoping I could put my cash down payment down first online and then call member services for the rest later.

But I like the ideas of renting out points. Maybe we will look into that. Thanks!!!

You can hold your cruise with your down payment and when ready call DVC to move it to points. They will then call the cruise line and convert it to all points or points for one person and cash for the other passenger/passengers. Do not pay this cruise in full because then DVC cannot move it. During that call you will also have to pay the $95 exchange as well as any other cash payment that is due. The down payment you already made to DCL will be reimbursed back to credit card used. Happens in a few days...they are fast. DVC now becomes your TA...everything goes through them from that point on. Just recently did the same scenario with my booking.
