Using DME just to transport your luggage?

I intended to do this on my last visit. I rented a car from mco and figured I would check in to DME and then just take the family and myself to get the car and drive to the hotel. I was informed that it is not possible and DME is not my personal bellhop. Somebody had to ride the bus. So my wife ended up just hopping on and the rest of us took the car. Needless to say we beat her by a longshot. No big deal really. But they didn't take anything from her. So how exactly would they know she got on a bus? Does anyone or has anyone used this service just for their luggage?

I've used DME about 3 times now, and every time I have gotten to the bus, the driver scans my voucher, then I'm allowed on the bus. I have been told that if that paper isn't scanned, your luggage isn't released.
I know that when I have taken a towncar, the only time I have gotten to my resort in an under an hour was when we had only carryon baggage and didn't need to go to baggage claim. Just deplaned, walked down to the bottom level, saw our driver, got into the car and off we went. It took us about 50 minutes. But, every time I have used DME, I have been at my resort within 70 minutes...never any longer. I don't think an extra 20 minutes is a big deal. Now, if you're renting a car anyway, then why not just take your luggage with you in the car? Why take the chance that your luggage could take longer to get to the resort than you?

We also have considered using ME and having one adult ride the bus so we would not have to rent a full size van to haul 4 adults and 2 kids, including car seats, strollers and all the luggage. A minivan or full size SUV should do fine, other than to/from the airport. Full size vans are usually pretty expensive to rent.

OK, this may be hijacking, sorry if it is... can we not take the ME to the resort but take it back to the airport?? :flower: :flower:

Yes, you can. I did this this past weekend.

We did the same thing a couple of months ago. DH and I arrived at CSR at the exact same time. We may do it again for our May trip.

We have 3 children under 5, luggage, strollers, car seats, booster seat. Our biggest hassle with travelling is getting in and out of the airport with our stuff. It was a breeze just hopping on the bus with 2 kids and my carryon bag.

We are planning on doing this in May as well. My DH will get the car with our infant and I will take the other 2 kids with me on DME.

The only problem for us is on the way home. Our airline is not associated with DME so we have to handle our luggage plus 2 strollers and 3 carseats! I just don't think that can be done.

Where does DME let you off the bus for the return trip? How far is it to the check-in counters? Are there people there to help with your luggage?

We were in the same situation and will be agin for our May trip. We had a skycap bring everything from the car rental drop off to the check in counter. We just pushed the kids in the stroller. It was well worth the money

We wanted the convenience of having a car, so we couldn't use ME just for our luggage. What we were able to do (because we flew Delta Song- I'm not sure which other airlines participate), was to drop our luggage off at the desk the morning we checked out, and they got it to the airport for us. This was a great service!

I've got no problem with the service or the length of time it takes. Even though I rent a car it is so much easier not to have to deal with the luggage and a toddler. We just packed a bag with some essentials and it was so much easier to find the bags in our room. :thumbsup2 So if we must seperate to get this service then it is worth it. Because of this board I discovered you can pick up your rental on property. Which is what we might do from now on. Sounds great to just hop on ME and sometime during the day pick up your car. Then you don't have to seperate and you still get the benefit of not fumblin with luggage. Now, does anyone know how I can get ME to deliver the luggage back to my home, wash it, and cook my first meal home? :rolleyes1
