I have a question about the disney transportation system. Can I take the monorail/bus/whatever from downtown Disney, then to a resort without using a day on my ticket? What about from EPCOT (so I've already used the ticket that day [not a park hopper]) to Downtown Disney, then to a resort and back to Downtown Disney?

By the way, hi, I'm new. I've been to Disneyland (in September two years ago). It was so super fun.

Now we're going to Disneyworld and I have been reading the boards for several months. You are all very helpful

I hope I did this right

Welcome to the boards :)

You do not have to use a ticket to use the transportation. All transportation at the parks is outside of the turnstiles (even the monorail) so you have access to them without actually entering a park.

Downtown Disney doesn't have direct transportation to any of the parks (kind of a deterant so people don't park there to go to the parks). In order to access a park from DTD or vice versa you would take the bus to a resort and then the resorts transportation (bus, boat, monorail) to the park you would like to access (and vice versa to get from a park to DTD).

Transportation is no additional charge and can be used by anyone :)

Downtown Disney is not considered a "park" and is not counted against your pass (good news, huh?). It's a shopping/restaurant area accessible by the WDW transportation system, which is free to use for anyone.

But as the message above states, be aware that you cannot go directly from a park (like Epcot or Magic Kingdom) to Downtown Disney. There is no method of transportation to go from any of the parks to Downtown Disney. As stated, you need to take a bus/monorail from the park you're at (such as Epcot) to one of the resorts first, then transfer to another bus/monorail to go to Downtown Disney from that resort. This can take forever (I tried going from Epcot to Downtown Disney, via the Contemporary Resort (which is on the monorail). At Epcot, took the monorail to the Contemporary, got off the monorail, went to the Contemporary bus area, and after waiting for half an hour with no sign of a bus, gave up and went back to my hotel. (This took more than an hour and and twenty minutes, and I still didn't make it to Downtown Disney!). My only really frustrating experience on this trip, luckily!

My suggestion is to go to Downtown Disney directly from your hotel, or to drive if you have a rental car. You could also take a taxi.

Welcome to the DIS, I'm so glad you found us and I hope can visit often.

I'm going to move this to our transportation board for you, where I'm sure you will receive excellent advice.

Thank you. When we were at Disneyland we thought, hey, let's ride the monorail, but (fortunately) the lady (I mean, CM)

at the entrance told us it would use up a day on our ticket. Boy, that would have made us very sad. :sad2:

By the way, we're going in January 5th-13th. My DH wants to run the half-marathon, and we'll be there for my birthday, yea! :thewave:

Welcome to the DIS!

Easiest way from Epcot to DTD using Disney transportation might be to exit Epcot at the International Gateway, walk to one of the Epcot resorts -- Yacht Club, Beach Club, Boardwalk, Swan, or Dolphin -- and catch a bus to DTD. The International Gateway is the Epcot entrance for the resorts, located near the bridge between the UK and France pavillions on the UK side.

Have a great trip! :)

If you don't swipe or hand over your ticket they can't take a day off of your ticket. You would just say "never mind" and not ride the monorail if you came to a turnstile first.

At TTC, before getting to the monorail and ferry platforms you must hold your park ticket up in the air as you pass a CM at a gate, at least during the morning rush.

If your MYW ticket has Water Park Fun you do not need hopping to visit one theme park and also Pleasure Island clubs.

In the old days of WDW and DL, when most rides required a coupon payment, you also needed to surrender a coupon to get on the monorail. After getting a hand stamp you could ride back to the parking lot (TTC at WDW) and return to the park later in the day.

From Magic Kingdom - Walk to Contemporary, bus to Downtown Disney OR Boat to Wilderness Lodge, bus to Downtown Disney

From Studios - Walk to Boardwalk, bus to Downtown Disney

From Epcot - Out International Gateway, walk to Beach Club, bus to Downtown Disney

From Epcot Main Entrance - Bus to POFQ or Old Key West, bus or boat to Downtown Disney

From Animal Kingdom - Bus to POFQ or Old Key West, bus or boat to Downtown Disney.

From any park - Bus to Saratoga Springs, walk to Downtown Disney (However, many Saratoga DVC members are getting upset at this option, so unless you really know your way around Saratoga, or are sure you won't disturb the residents there, I wouldn't use this option.)
