Using Disney Reward points to pay for package...

Can I use reward points to pay for a package that I must pay 45 days in advance? If so, what happens if I have to cancel the trip. Can I move the points over to another vacation? Or can I have them put back on the card? Or do I just lose them?

Thanks!

I was planning on doing this as well, but never really thought about the cancellation factor. Does anyone know?

You must pay 45 days in advance? Why? Did you use a travel agent? I booked directly with Disney Travel and they said I had till 5 days before vacation start to make changes. I will show at the resort and hand over the disney reward dollars cards to pay part of the vacation.

Tarpon, if you have a package, then you must pay 45 days in advance, room only reservations can pay when they check in.

As far as the Disney card, you certainly can use it to pay for the room. You can use it for anything at Disney. But I am not sure about a refund of the points. I would be very careful about this, and would check with the disney rewards people to find out about this. There certainly is a lot of small print on the rewards web site and so I would make sure you could get the points back. Why not save the points and use them once you get on vacation. Use them instead of cash or a credit card whenever you pay for anything.

I am in the same boat too. Booked a package and hoping to use my Disney Rewards card to pay off some of my balance due 45 days before the trip. I have the free dining, so I won't be paying out-of-pocket for anything at Disney (at least that is my plan!!) so I really need to use my rewards towards my trip (or I guess I could save them for DL next year, but would rather use them now).

Has anyone called to find out the "official" word?

This is my feeling too. Why try to track down an 'official' policy regarding this when it will just result in headaches? Even if you've got a package that includes tickets, room, and meal plan, there are still tons of expenses that come up - use your points for those. Unless you've got a huge amount opf points or something.

We had about 500 dollars (points) and used them to pay for our room because we had a room only reservation. But I would never consider using points to pay in advance for something i might have to cancel. I would just rather avoid the headaches.

Thanks for your insight Boston Rob but I agree with ThreeBoysMom. Most of my expense occurs before I arrive. There is little out-of-pocket once I'm there. This is a budget trip for us so if it is possible to pay using reward points I'd prefer it. Obviously if I cannot get them back in the event of cancellation, then I won't.

I have about 300 points on my card. I can't think of anything at WDW that I will be spending extra on. Room & tickets are paid for, as well as our food. I'm not planning on buying anything down there...Kids DEFINITELY do not need any more souvies. Staying onsite so no parking fees. What am I missing? No strollers.... Maybe a pic - $12.00 ??
