Using Developer Pts to Replace Existing Reservations?

When I called MS to confirm that I could use my developer points to replace the current 2007 pts for two exising reservations that I have (both of which are now within 7 months from now), the person discussed this with someone at MS and then told me that I could do this IF my "projected building opening date" was at least 30 days BEFORE the reservations.

For example, she said that if I was wanting to use the developer pts to replace 2007 pts in a reservation for October 5-12, then my projected building opening date would need to be September 1. She suggested that I call my guide to make sure of the projected building opening date. When I called my guide back, he seemed to know what she was talking about and said that he would make sure it was.

Has anyone else been told or can you clarify what they are speaking of?

I think I know what you mean, but, it doesn't seem right to me. After all, developer points can ONLY be used for 12 months from purchase date, so, conceivably if MS is using unit opening dates for the developer points it can considerably shorten the timeframe in which to use them. I also read on the boards the other day that several people were able to exchange their new developer points for existing reservations in the near future which were made with regular point and those points were then returned to their proper use year.

This is very strange. Like I posted on another thread, we bought AKV points this past Saturday and were able to change our existing 2007 reservations to developer points with no problems. I also called yesterday and booked an AKV studio for one night in September with developer points, and was not told anything like what you were told. Also when I called yesterday, they verified my developer points ressies with me over the phone. I don't know why you were told this but it doesn't sound correct to me. If it is, they are going to have quite a few PO'd people on their hands.

I just added on 100 points (2 x 50 contracts, btw) at AKV. Hadn't planned on adding on until next summer, but the double developer points offer was too good to pass. October UY.

I have an existing trip in mid-September 2007 reserved made with previously owned 2006 points and a very small borrow (30) against previously owned 2007 points.

I specifically asked my guide if, in connection with the purchase, I could use some of the developer points to substitute in to my existing reservation, moving the borrowed 2007 points back into the 2007 use year -- and thereby enhancing the flexibility of such.

I was told that was not possible with respect to the 2007 points, as they were borrowed. And as borrowing is a final transaction. I understand and can live with that position. But as I keep reading about this on the Disboards, I'm wondering if this is an accurate position.

Of those who have been allowed to substitute in points on an existing reservation, is there anyone who was able to return borrowed points to their original use year as part of the transaction?

As I have read on the boards, the DP points are not yet reflected on the DVC member site.
I called today and got a very nice and patient man in MS and explained to him that I wanted to use my 220 DP points in two existing reservations, one for October and another one for the end of year.
He discussed with someone to make sure this could be done and explained that it would take about 10 days-- they have to submit a special form.
I then also wanted to make sure that the banked and borrowed points that were used in the reservations remained with the reservations, and only the current 2007 year points would be replaced with DP points.
I must have been on hold close to 30 minutes, but he came back and said it took some manuevering but that they were able to do...they had used all of the DP points, but had not replaced any banked or borrowed points (since these could not later be banked into next year).
He confirmed that all remaining points could be banked and that all my DP points have now been used. Thanks to MS.

P.S. Nothing in our conversation was ever mentioned any more about the the "projected building opening date."

I am glad it was resolved for you OP. :thumbsup2

I had borrowed a few '08 pts into '07 & WAS able to "un-borrow" & change that res over to the new points I purchased. The way I understand it is the only time this is possible is during a new/additional purchase transaction.

I don't know if the wrinkle in your case was trying to use dp's instead of the new points??? but I was most definately able to do it.

To the OP - are we talking about AKV or SSR? That might be the difference there with the 30 day issue??? I was able to change over 2 ressies to dp's, no problem. One for Aug & one in Dec.
