DEBIT CARD USE AT CHECK-IN:
1) Cards are given at check-in to allow room charges.
. . . there is no money charged to the card at check-in
. . . there is also no monetary "hold" placed upon the card
. . . the card is "run" only to verify it is valid
2) The room charging limits, whether debit or credit cards are
. . . Value Resorts - $500
. . . Moderate Resorts - $1,000
. . . Deluxe/
DVC Resorts - $1,500
3) When you reach the limit, you charge the card and start over.
. . . you call the Front Desk
. . . the Front Desk applies the charged amount to the card
. . . the room limit is reduced to zero
. . . you can, again, charge purchases to the room
4) Debit and Credit card work the same in this regard.
5) The difference is at charging time or at check-out.
. . . sometimes the Debit card will not allow a large charge
. . . many have daily limits, such as $300 to $500
. . . if more is charged, the transaction is denied
6) If the debit card transaction is denied
. . . the CM usually tries to charge several smaller transactions
. . . example: two transactions of $250 each for a $500 amount
. . . example: five transactions of $100 each for a $500 amount
. . . however, the CM is not "supposed" to do this
. . . it is a courtesy to the guest
. . . officially, the CM is supposed to call the guest to the Front Desk
. . . the guest is then to use other methods (cash, check, credit card)
7) The night before check-out, debit card denials can be an issue
. . . sometimes the debt card is denied for the full amount
. . . then a letter is shoved under the guest's door
. . . they are notified to come to Front Desk to settle the bill
. . . some guests leave without settling
. . . in such case, WDW Billing sends a notice to their home
. . . if not settled quickly, they refer to debt collection
. . . and, Disney debt collection is not as pleasant as the vacation
