Can you use the DDE for items that are not included on the ddp such as drinks and appetizers? We are using the DDP for the first time and we usually order apps and drinks so just wondered if the can make a seperate check fore these things and use our DDE for the 20 discount. Also no tax is charged on the ddp but tax is charged with the dde correct? Anybody know what the tax is on meals?

I can't help you with the tax, but you can use the DDE to get the 20% off on drinks and appetizers. I did this back in Dec 2007 when I traveled with my DMiL who insisted on the DDP. Personally, I'm not a fan of the DDP as it is too much food and I don't like being tied to an ADR everyday. Anyway, I like an adult beverage occassionally, and used my DDE card for the discount on that.

Pamjb - I think you have a typo - you meant DDE card, not DDP card, right?

goofy - The tax rate is 6.5% and it is applied post discount. If your bill is $10, you'll get a $2 discount and the 6.5% tax will be applied to the $8 due.

thanx Tricia.....I fixed it. That's what happens when my fingers go faster than my brain :lmao:

More like that's what happens when you try to keep straight, DDP, DDE, DxDDP, OOP, QSDP, CM, MM, CRT, LC, CDF, SS, OOP, FP's, SM, CHH, and the other 1,000,000 acronyms we all use on a daily basis here.

Have you noticed that when you talk to someone who isn't on the boards that you need to constantly explain what you mean when you say you're going to CP for breakfast?!?! :rotfl:

I was thinking of purchasing the DDE for our trip in March in conjuction with the DP. I know my DW and I will have some drinks and order a few apps here and there. How do they calculate the tips in conjunction with the DDP/DE??
Thanks

How the tips are calculated would best be asked in the official tipping thread. You can find that here http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1870320

Regarding purchasing the DDE to cover a few drinks and a few appetizers, you may be better off not purchasing the DDE card.

You need to spend $300 OOP to pay back the cost of the card. For us it worked because we were taking so many trips within the year and we did Victoria & Albert's. So it worked out great that we had it when we took two trips with the DDP in 2007.

For you, an occasional drink and appetizer may be better off just paid OOP - especially if you're only taking one trip within the next year.

Tricia, we are actually taking two pretty long trips in the next 6 months.
11/8 thru 11/19 and 3/1 thru 3/11
we have the deluxe plan for our Nov trip and will likely just get the regular plan for March since we will be in a DVC 1 bedroom.
Any ideas?

We're also getting the DDE card (when we activate our APs) next week. This trip we've got free dining but would like to use the card in case we want adult beverages or anything. I've also ordered a custom cake for two of our meals-would that count towards the DDE card? For this trip, do I ask them to bill the meal seperately from the adult beverages and appatizers (or anything else we would order not on the dining plan)?? Just trying to get it straight before we leave. I'm so glad I found this thread!:goodvibes

OK, so you'll be in Disney for roughly 21 days in the next year. You'd have to spend about $14/day in adult beverages and appetizers per day.

As a bonus, you'll get free valet at resorts when dining there, whether you're using the card or not. That's a bonus only if you'll have a car though.

As an additional bonus, if you're staying DVC - at some of the food courts you get 20% off for your CS OOP purchases.

AK is another place that you get a discount.

That ALL being said - $14 per day on extras may be a lot for your group. You know them best, and maybe it will work for you.

We used the DDP in April 2007, along with our DDE and ordered an anniversary cake for dessert at Mama Melrose. I think we got the discount on the cake as well, but I cannot promise you that.

When you tell your server you're on the DDP, they will tell you that you're paying extra for any appetizers/extras that you order. There is no need to ask them to bill you separately. However, before they bring the bill - let them know that you'll be applying the DDE card to the balance of the bill.

I am also wondering about the DDE along with DDP. My children will have the DDP and we have DDE but not the dining. Would we be able to put their drinks/appy on our bill and they use their meal plan for the actual meal? I know we can use the DDE for up to 10 people and I'm wondering if anyone has had experience with this? Thank you and have a nice day!!

Well if we werent doing the deluxe plan in Nov. I think the $14 per day would not be hard to do but since apps are included in that plan we may not reach that.
Thanks for your help

You should be fine. We have DDE and have used the DDP and this year the deluxe DDP for parts of our vacations (some of the DVC portions). Anyway, we have had absolutely no problems using DDE to pay for our wine as well as for meals for our guests. Your situation is a bit different but the bottom line is the same. There will be two bills...one for DDE and one with zero balance for the DDPers.

Well, actually a third and that's for the tip for the DDP.

So many receipts this year!:sad2:
