Thanks to DIS I now know you can use both sides of the register to order. I've always seen the left side wide open, figuring that's where you come back out after ordering and getting your food. Guess that's what everyone thinks.

So say you approach a CS restaurant and the left is wide open and the right side has 10 people on line. Do you just strut right up to the front on the left side or do you say something? If you just go right up, what do you say to people if they say "the line is over here" or some rude comment? I don't want to end up in an argument when all I want to do is get my food and I'm following rules.

probably tell the people in front and if they look at you funny then just walk up to the left and then they will get the idea

You CAN go right up to the register. It's perfectly OK according to rules. But if you don't want to arouse the ire of those who are already in line and don't know you can do that, you may want to offer them the first shot at getting in line. I don't. If anyone says something the most I will say back is "this is a line, too."

I usually tell the people in front of me, if there are no takers I go.I have had people get nasty with me too, but it gets old telling people and having the Cm say over and over again " Both sides are open for service"

I just go up to the line with no one in it and order. Quite honestly, if you attempted to notify others when they aren't paying attention at Disney World, you would exhaust yourself fairly quickly. It's the same with the turnstiles to get into the parks. How many people just join a line and don't look for any turnstile with a green arrow? Or bag check lines. There are two sides there as well but there are times when only one side is being used. I just go to the other way.

The general guideline I follow at Disney World is if it's not roped off or blocked off, I'm going to use it. If I'm not supposed to, a Cast Member will tell me not to. No harm, no foul.

I just go right up to the line.

Sometimes the CM serves me next, sometimes, the CM waits until the person who would have been in front of me gets to the line and then serves me. in the mean time, two lines start to form. and it makes their job easier as well.

Me too, I used to explain, but people just give you the deer in the headlights look, so I just move up. If someone openly freaked at me, I would offer to let them ahead of me. Not my fault if people don't realize both sides are open and play follow the leader.

This past December at the Electric Umbrella in Epcot I went in there a few minutes before they opened for lunch and when the Cast Member said which registers were going to be open, I went right up to the front on the left and there was already a few people standing on the right side. However no one on the right side told me the line was where they were standing and if that ever happens to me I will say they use two lines on both sides.

I just go up to the left side. This has happened to us a few times, and nobody has ever given us a second glance. Usually the line splits, and almost always the CM finishes the transaction they are currently working on, take the next family from the right side, and then come over to the left side.
