Good evening,

This will be our first trip to Disney and I have saved plenty of Air Miles to cover part of the cost. Have you ever booked your trip thru the Air Miles line for either Transat Holidays or Air Canada and obtained this? I am feeling pretty nervous since the free dining is coming up tomorrow. Any assistance would be great :)

Free dining plan.. not freener. LOL

Please tell me more about this free dining and how it is related to Airmiles.

We used airmiles last trip to pay down part of our package.

We did it through Marlin Travel.

Actually, I booked my own package online as soon as I received a PIN and then transferred it to Marlin Travel afterwards in order to use my airmiles.

Marlin Travel just redeems Airmiles directly for you and puts the amount onto your account. I think it's 950 AM for each $100. Max $400 pp I think you can use for AM.

We booked through air miles in July 2010 for a free dining package in Aug. 2010. At the time, I had no idea about Disney World prices so I let air miles travel figure everything out for me. They booked our direct flights from Toronto (family of 4) through west Jet. We had 7nights at ASM with 7 days of tickets plus park hoppers (plus free dining).

After redeeming 17000 air miles, our trip cost us in total $1800.

 What on earth did they charge you $1800 for??? That's the cost of the WDW package you described.

Well the total package (if we paid out of pocket) was $4100 which included the flight, hotel, tickets and park hoppers.

But if you are insinuating that I got ripped off, I think you'd probably be right. I did not do the math, nor did I know what the price per person on our flight was at the time.

Bottom line is we redeemed 17000 air miles for $2300.

I booked through Air Miles for 3 trips we have taken (2007, 2009, 2012) and the trip at the end of August 2009 occurred during the free dining promotion period. There was no issue with AM booking the package that included the free dining.

When I called AM, the agent from the package department told me that in order to add dining (whether it's free or not!) to a Disney package through AM, they had to book everything all at once (excluding flights). So the room, park tix and dining for both DH and I, needed to be booked at the same time. Otherwise, I was informed that AM couldn't add the dining later.

Just be aware that not all promotions you see on the Disney website, or PIN's you may receive, are active promotions that AM has at that time, so the prices aren't always the same. Best option is to get a quote from AM for a package, then decide if you can beat it by putting your own "package" vacation together through other means.
