My daughter wanted to know if there is a way to have internet usage on her laptop while on the Magic. Thank you for any help. Sherry

If you have cell phone coverage, you can connect your cell phone to your laptop (via data cable) and use your cell phone as a modem.

Only way to is what the previous poster said. I was told that if you have a wifi card starting next year DCL will be offering onboard wireless internet in lobby and pool areas. Probably wont be until somtime next year and I dont know how much it costs. I still bring my laptop anyways but you must you ships compuiters for internet.

you don't need WiFi to use your cell phone. you only need cellular coverage to connect to the internet (and the proper data cable). Cellular coverage isn't the same as WiFi.

when you are in port, odds are with a GSM cell phone you will get coverage. Now, whether or not your plan covers such roaming is something different.

(I know, I'm in the .00001% of the population which knows how to make this phone to laptop internet connection work)

If you read my post you would see I didnt say that to use the cell phone is same as wifi. I also have used cell phone for connecting to internet and depending what plan you have it can be exspensive. ButI said DCL is going to start having wifi on there ships. :)

That would be awesome!! They already have wifi for CM's to use, saw them using it to check kids in/out of the clubs when they were on the sports deck.

Yea cms already have it. I think the problem is getting actual internet connection set up to run fast enough with lots of passengers using it and not interfering with the cruise ships needs to use internet connect. Like when you see cms using wifi for kids clubs they arent connected to world wide web, just the cruise ships local intranet/server. I am told you will be given a password to log on to wifi and it will be around 10.99-20.99 for 24 hours.

Yuk. Can't people leave their computers and cell phones at home?
They're SUPPOSED to be on vacation.
I checked out of the real world the minute I boarded the Disney bus at the airport, and didn't check back in until I was dragged off the bus at the airport 7 days later.

Yes, I have always left "work" behind when I board the ship but I won't be able to do that next year on the Panama cruise. I have an internet business and it is just ME and only ME running it. So there is no one else I can have do it---something about doing it yourself and it gets done right! :D

Luckily customers don't know that I am out in the Carribbean for 4 days. Hopefully they just think it took me awhile to answer email because of so much business! But since business is retail and I must ship out merchandise I need to make sure that is done. I have alternate ways of shipping while I am gone but of course I want customers to get their stuff as quickly as they can. Over the past few years I really have only had one angry customer and I did confess that I was on vacation--much needed. Some people think I work 24 hours a day 7 days a week. It is amazing how upset someone can be when they email you at 11PM on a Friday and you don't answer them until Monday morning. So I will need to have internet access and it would be best thru my laptop but I may just have to deal with their internet cafe instead. But I certainly don't surf the web while I'm on board. I can do that from home--and I do too much of it. Like...reading these DisBoards every day!

Heck, I'd just do what many family run traditional businesses do, put up a sign..."On Vacation, back in 2 weeks". Actually. one internet business I deal with did that the first two weeks of November. And yes, some people got very upset.
I deal with that too at my work. I always respond to their e-mail or voicemail by the next business day, but some folks expect you to work 24/7, and I'm sorry, I have to sleep sometime.

I know, TVGuy, I should say "closed" BUT then I lose a lot of $$ due to lost sales and repeat customers that won't return I have a strong web presence for my niche and I'd hate to lose it. I do give myself breaks--just wanted to explain how some people can't totally leave their jobs.. My stay-at-home job allows us TO cruise at least once a year!! :cool1: Sure wish I had booked this year's 10 night though!
