Using a DVC rental agency?

I know that DVC rental agencies have been struggling with the resorts closures. Is it a good idea trying to use them now to try to rent points out? What are the advantages/disadvantages given the current environment? Never rented points out before.

Have over 350 banked points (Dec UY)... I'm trying to figure out what to do with them!

The new contracts they are using shifts a lot of risk to the points owner. So the premium you pay them for service is no longer about risk sharing, it is just finding a renter.

And given that agencies have 1000+ confirmed bookings for rent right now, finding renters for the next 5 months is going to be hard via an agency.

Based on all that has happened, I wouldn’t use an agency again. I have a renter next month and hope it goes well for them to go.

Our friend has had his points re-listed for weeks now with no bites. He previously had them all rented within 24 hours but the trips were all cancelled due to closures. I don't know how much luck you will even have.

We just rented a confirmed reservation and we took the lowest priced one because we could be flexible with our schedule. I think a lot of people are in the wait and see mode. So it depends if you're trying to make money or just cover costs? Maybe try and rent them out here on the boards?

I think now that people can buy park tickets it should be easier to rent. We will be at Universal studios for Thanksgiving and are going to try to stay one night the Sunday before flying back, will be looking at renting for that one night.

You could also try a points transfer either on your own or using the site sponsor. If the points don't expire until 11/30/21 they still have good value.

I think after what many owners have gone through during WDW's closure, IMHO, most DVC rental agencies aren't worth what they charge since they essentially just provide a match-making service. To make matter worse, one notable agency even has rewritten its rental contract to put the burden of DVC closure on the owners. That to me is an even bigger deal-breaker.

Oh, back to the OP, I say try on your own and if you just want to make up the maintenance fees and other assorted fees, rent low....there are over 1000 confirmed reservations that the agencies are trying to sell.

My friend just cancelled her split stay (3 different resorts, 3 different owners). Only the last two are consecutive. The first was to occur, then a DCL (now cancelled), then the other two stays. She is resigned to not getting any of her money back. I suggested she send an email to David's to let them know she's willing to cut down on the refund that she gets so that she can at least recover half of the money (otherwise she is out $3000). She is in a higher risk category and her fiance is in an even higher risk category than her (smoker, lung issues, etc.)

I think if you transfer them into the RCI network, they'll be good for another 2 years within that system. You need to transfer them at least 45 days before the points expire.

Never had to transfer point to RCI before so will have to look into that option. Thanks!

I'm looking into this option myself. I feel like there's a bit of a learning curve and it's hard to find information, especially when you get into the weeds with banked and/or holding points.

I used an agency to rent my extra points back in January for an April reservation. Park closed. Agency only offered renter future vouchers for cancellation (that sucks for them). since I had already accepted partial payment, I relisted points with same agency and now have a rental for a September reservation. With the change in contract language, going forward, I think I will just rent myself through the rent/trade board on this forum.
