Using a credit card at DLP?

Hello again, everyone!

We're just a few weeks from our European trip (our first). We've heard that it's a mostly cash-based system out there but I was curious to see if we could use our credit card at the resort or should we plan on cash again?

Yes, you can use a credit card at the resort. I pretty much only used a credit card. Are you from the US? Just make sure you have a credit card with no foreign transaction fees.

Hopefully it's okay to hop on this thread with a related question. If staying at a Disney hotel, are you able to charge all meals and shopping to your hotel account, which has your credit card on file?

Yes you can. You need to register your bank card or credit card upon check in. They you are issued with a contactless payment card and you set up a PIN number to use it around the resort.

You can then check your ballance on the TV in your room.

No we use credit cards, bank debit cards and Apple Pay in Europe.

I've not used cash in DLP for at least 10 years.

The credit card availability has really increased all over Europe these days.

And Disneyland Paris Resort does take card payments everywhere. As mentioned above you can also very easily connect your card to your Disney Resort Account (to your hotel charges) and it shouldn't be affected by eventual "foreign transaction fees", since it should be considered as a billing and not a credit card transaction, per se. But do ask for the specifics regarding that! Since different banks could have different rules regarding the international payments charged on their cards.

Edit: I checked my old e-mails with Castle Cub concierge and we had a conversation regarding this. I had included a quote from my bank confirming that the hotel costs would be billed, not credit charged!

i use a FairFX currency card when abroad which i load up with money before i leave. Ive usually had some pretty decent Euro rates with them over the years. im using one again with them for my next trip in December. You can download the app and check your balance and top up the card if necessary.

I dont think theres a charge when using it for paying for items, but i think theres a small fee if you use it to withdraw cash from ATM.

That's great to hear! Thank you! Sounds like it's a little different than in the U.S., in that you have a separate charging card (not your room key), but definitely doable.

It is a separate card, and it's RFID (no stripe or chip; just hold near the reader). I used my chip card (rather than the hotel card) most of the time as the Euro kept moving around day to day and didn't want to hedge on the last day having the best rate (it was the weekend after Brexit and into the next week, so the Euro was pretty volatile). No issues with Chip and Sign the entire trip, anywhere in France.

Those who used a CC, did most places in Europe require a 4 or 6 digit pin. I've heard both and wasn't sure what to request (most US cards get a 4 digit pin, but a 6 digit can be requested or so I've been told).

Are you talking about debit cards? Credit cards don't use pins in the US. They just have you sign instead, which they also do in Paris. Never used a debit card with a pin because my CC didn't have foreign transaction fees.

The US usually does not, but the new CHIP cards do have PIN capability and I've been told that in London they require the PIN not the signature I just wondered if France was also a PIN required for CC use.

I have a card that does not have foreign transaction fees, I won't be using my debit LOL

I used my chip CC and did not have a pin, they just had me sign, both in London and France.

Mostly they let you sign in france, if they let you pin (petrolstation) or countrys like belgium or netherlands) it is 4 digit in europe.
