Using a car while staying on site - did you save time?

Missypie - at which resort will you be staying and when are you going? Both of these things could influence a decision as well. I agree with many posters about the traveling to/from Magic Kingdom. I usually arrive very early and we park right up close to the TTC - no tram needed. Then we either take the monorail or the ferry over. That said, for the last few trips we have stayed at FW and we have taken the boat launch to MK. I really like the boat transportation even if it isn't the fastest way to get around. Just so everybody knows, I was joking around on my earlier post - hope I didn't offend anyone - the bus system really works well and the fellow passengers are usually great. We stayed at a Downtown Disney hotel a couple of years ago, the transportation was a nightmare!! Disney does it right most of the time. We just find for us, we prefer our own car - we also travel in the winter so even though warm, we don't have to contend with the car being outrageously hot. That could definitely be a factor in summer.

We have never had a long wait for a rental car.

For years we were "bus" people. I couldn't see any disadvantages. I didn't mind (at that time) going to T & T and changing. Then the buses seemed to get more crowded, and the wait started to be longer. I remember going with a broken foot, and waiting what seemed like forever at MK, and have the bus pull up short, and the line load from the back. We had to wait again for the next bus. When it came, it was packed, and although someone did offer me a seat, I was awful claustiphobic with people so packed in..and whenever the bus went around a corner, I had to put out my arms, to protect my foot, since the poor people standing, had very little to hold onto, and some looked like they were about to come crashing down. We started renting after that, and couldn't believe the freedom! No more hot long waits, no more horrible crowds standing smushed together on the buses. Air conditioning or not, the bus didn't alwqys smell that good whith a bunch of people packed like sardines. We actually had a shorter walk to trams, and were in the park before buses from our resort pulled up. We did race our daughter back a few times, since my grand wanted the bus experience..and we always got to greet her while in our suits at the pool. No more experiences for them LOL! Car wins everytime for us.

We usually have a car because my DH plays golf several times and it is much easier to have a car to store his clubs in and to get to the courses. When we stay at a deluxe we usually end up only using the car for golf, dinner at another resort and when he take our laundry to drop off to be washed and folded toward the end of your trip. When stay at a moderate we use the car every day because it is usually quite a hike from the bus stop and the last thing I want to do is have a long walk to the room after walking in the parks all day.
