Here is the scenario ...

We have 34 points, use by end of Mar 2013. Friend has 25, use by end of Feb 2012.

We want to stay OKW for 47 points in Feb 2012 then AKV for 12 points in sept 2012.

Friend has said we can have the points, but she's already banked her points so cannot just transfer them to us (nothing is easy):confused3

So, can she phone member services and book the ressie using her 25 and 22 of ours for Feb (I know I can't book Sept yet) .. or, do I have to call as it'll be my name on the ressie ... or, can we not pool our points?

Thanks for the help and sorry if I haven't made this clear, my head is cofuzzled!!

Ignore this .. I think 've found the answer now .... no we can't combine them!

I'm hoping instead that we can transfer 22 points to her, she then makes the booking for Feb 2012. That leaves us with 12 points ready for Sept 2012 booking .. make sense?!:confused3:)

She can reserve as many nights are her points will allow (with a reservation in your name) and you can reserve the remaining nights using your points and both would then request that MS link the two reservations together - as long as view, resort, villa type are the same - and you should not need to move during your stay.

Without a transfer, there is no other way to combine the points though and the method above could result in a few points from each contract being stranded.

The problem is that your points are April 2012 UY points and those can not be used for a Feb 2012 vacation IF they are transferred to your friends account.

Transferred points can not be borrowed and that is what your friend would need to do with them to make them valid for that Feb 2012 trip. You could transfer 12 points for the September 2012 vacation to her which would leave her points available for booking whole nights for the Feb 2012 trip.

You would then have to borrow your April 2012 UY points--which you can do--for the Feb 2012 trip to complete the nights.

The issue, as mentioned, is whether or not you have enough in each to do the whole nights.

Good luck!

Mine are April 2013 UY, not 2012. I've already used my 2011 points and most of our 2012 (use by Apr 2013) points .. I've only got the 34 left now.

I can't use her points alone for the Feb 2012 booking as there's not enough, she has 25 and that's enough for 1 night and a bit only. I need 3 nights which is why we'd need to pool the points. I don't have enough for 2 nights and she only has enough for 1 and a bit! No use.

Am I stuck with not being able to use her points then? Such a shame. :sad2:

Could I transfer to her then? We don't have enough to book what we need on separate bookings, that's why we need to put them together.

It's an odd amount that we both have ... and hers must be used by end of Feb 2012 which means we can't use hers for the Sept 2012 ressie.

Thanks for any help anyone can give :thumbsup2

If your points are really April 2013 UY points, then there is no way they can be used for a Feb 2012 trip--even in your own account. You can only "borrow" 2013 UY points for trips taking place in your 2012 UY (April 1st, 2012 through March 31st, 2013). Since a Feb 2012 trip takes place in your April 2011 UY, 2013 UY points, even borrowed, would be ineligible for this trip.

However, you mention that the 34 points expire at the end of March 2013. If that is true , then they must be your 2012 UY points--not your 2013 UY points (unless they are already borrowed points in which case, you can't transfer them anyway). Your 2013 UY points are valid from April 1st, 2013 through MArch 31st, 2014. If they are really 2012 UY points, then you can borrow them to use for Feb 2012, but they are no use to your friend because once she gets them, they can no longer be borrowed and that is what has to happen to them in order to make them valid for a Feb 2012 trip.

I would recommend double checking your DVC member account to see what it says in terms of what UY your 34 points are.

If they are current UY points, you can transfer them to her. However, even when transferred, they have to be eligible for the time you want to travel in order for her to book them with her points.

Since you have an April UY, the only points that can be transferred to her and combined with her points for a Feb 2012 trip, would be April 2011 UY points, since the trip you want to book is in your 2011 UY.

Points keep their same UY, even when transferred so everything is based on April.

Sandisw ... thank you so much for this great info. Despite the fact that my head is now more cofuzzled than before, I now know the answer is no. Such a shame, but thems the rules.

Thanks loads.

It's still not exactly clear what UY your points actually are but if they are April 2012 points that could be borrowed for a stay in Feb 2012 one option would be to supplement your friends points with the 1 time points purchase from DVC where you can buy up to 24 points at $15/pt. Your friend could book with their points and purchase for you any additional points to make 2 nights and then you could book the remaining nights with your points - assuming they are actually able to be used for a stay in Feb.

Or your friend could book the one night and you could book the remainder supplementing with the one time point purchase.

I once did OKW with a DVC friend. She booked 2 nights and I booked 2 nights and we linked them and it was seemless.
