Hey everyone! I went to the "Gala Premiere" up at Universal Studios Hollywood last night. The photo update can be found here:

For a quick review, I have to say that I actually quite enjoyed the ride. While it wasn't amazing, it wasn't bad either. It was just plain fun. The dark ride parts turned out better than I was expecting, even after having seen them up close and in person a few weeks ago. The treasure room and the final room were on par with Indy and the other ones were cool also.

As for the coaster part, it reminded me a lot of rides like Space Mountain, Runaway Mountain, and Eurosat. Decent stuff. Not too thrilling, but not that tame, either. The launch was cool. Don't go in expecting Mr. Freeze or Chiller, because it's not that at all.

I thought the cut-outs of the Mummy's actually worked well along with the on board audio and they reminded me almost exactly like the one in Indy that you see overhead in the fire room just after the snake.

The backwards part was probably the weakest part of the ride. It was 'ok' but nothing too thrilling.

And I actually thought the ending was decent too. The lighting in the room when you come into it worked REALLY well, and the fake fire effects were good. (not changed since our last update). It was kind of lame that the last thing you got blasted with was cold air. That did kind of kill that room. But everything else was fine.

Overall, I think the ride is fun. It's not the end-all earth-shattering themed attraction, and quite honestly, it's not going to be a winner with the coaster enthusiasts. But EVERYONE in our train loved it, and people were cheering and clapping in all the other trains.

As far as the new rides to open in So Cal this year, Tower is certainly the winner, Journey is DEFINITELY the loser, and Mummy is a solid runner-up!

When you ride the FL version, keep this in mind: "Hollywood's version is completely different in all manners."

Thanks, Robb, for the report and all the pics! I showed them to DD(6) who is a ride freak...TOT and RnRC tying for her favorites at this time! She is eagerly awaiting The Mummy when we go May '05. I was afraid she would be a little scared by the "mummies" but she looked at the pics and just kinda shook her head. Told her they might be movin', her response, "No problem". Well, at least my mind is eased!

^^ Yeah, that's what I've heard! I'm actually anxious to see the differences in the Orlando version.

So far, with Tower and JtA, So Cal has certainly not gotten the better versions of the rides. I've heard the same with Mummy, which wouldn't surprise me, but I'll wait until I ride it to make my decision.

I've heard they are both almost equally as fun, just different.

Make sure you watch the queue video, though. And ride more than once. You might not be able to spot the Golden Kong on your first run-through...

Great review! One of my teens looked at all the pictures with me. The boys love anything "Mummy". We both enjoyed all of the pictures! THANKS!!

I tend to agree. JTA is rubbish compared to ours, which somewhat surprised me. ToT comes probably the closest to ours and is neat in its own right, but still falls a bit short. As for Mummy, I did find it hard to compare because it is a completely different ride and I liked it for what it was. I would pretty much agree with your review except that I liked the backwards part. It wasn't so much the coaster, but Imhotep jeering the car when you coast backwards as if there were no escape. Otherwise, it is a great ride and no one can say if they've been on one, they've been on both, which only adds to both versions that they hold that originality in each.

have any of you been to Disneyland Paris and gone on the Indiana Jones ride and the Mummy ride in Florida. Are they similar, because on the Indiana Jones ride it goes backwards and upside down once, but cracks your head
