Yes, anything charged to your room, including tips....:thumbsup2

Is it true that you can use OBC for tips? I was sure that I read somewhere you could use if for everything except tips, but I have been going blind on paperwork lately, so I certainly may be wrong.

We have two staterooms next trip and, thus, more OBC that we've had in the past. Just curious about the tip thing.

Thanks,
Gail

All onboard credit is, is a "credit" against your onboard account, so anything charged to your onboard account (even tips) can be offset by your onboard credit.

You don't really specify to guest services what you are using your OBC for...it is just on the account and anything charged to onboard account eats up your OBC.

Say you have $200 OBC at the start of your cruise....throughout the cruise you charge shore excursions for $50, bar bill for $50, photos for $50, etc. Then you want to charge your tips to your onboard account that cost $100.00. Your onboard charges are now $250.00 but your OBC is only $200.00. You would then have to settle your account at the end of your cruise by paying DCL the difference of $50.00 by either cash, travellers check or leaving it on the credit card you gave at check-in.

If someone did not have any OBC then their bill at the end to settle would be $250.00

Hope I did not make it too confusing.

what happens if your OBC is more than your final bill (that will NEVER happen to me -- I guarantee) ? do you get cash back?

The operative wording is "ON BOARD" credit. It is good "onboard" (or I believe at Castaway Cay). So use it or lose it.

Thanks! This is what I was hoping to hear, although I admit we have never had a problem finding some way to spend that OBC  .

I'm going to use the onboard credit to treat myself to a special souvenier that I normally wouldn't buy for myself. Thinking of some of those expensive Shutters photo's right now -- but who knows what trinket or bauble will strike my fancy once I board the Wonder. OBC = mad money!!!
:eeyore:

We got 150.00 on our cruise next april and I plan on using my 150 in the spa! I think My kids will want to use theirs for something else!

Well, some of it. The OBC you get for booking on an earlier cruise/Disney Visa/TA credit definately need to be used up (and pretty much can be with just tips an exursion or two and some adult beverages). However, you can also 'purchase' OBC for yourself or receive them as gifts from friends and family. These would be refunded if unused. So if Great Aunt Mable gives you an OBC for Christmas (purchased with her credit card) and you don't use it up, Mable gets some money back (refunded to her credit card). The refunds work...last in (purchased), first out (refunded).

Lots of folks pre-pay for their estimated expenses by buying OBCs for themselves.

How do you buy the OBC in advance? We will be doing our 2nd cruise in Aug 08 and we spent WAY too much this August. Although would do it again in a second! And probably will!! :)

If you are buying your own, you can just call DCL and give them the info over the phone (the amount and your charge card number). There is also a form you can get from the web-site to mail in an OBC. Print some out, fill in your reservation number and pass them out to friends and family...you know, birthday presents, Christmas/Chanakua presents......
