This economy stinks. We were talking to someone who was laid off 5 months ago - a 60 yo divorced woman. She has a BS and an MBA. No real retirement plans. She got 12 weeks of severance, and is living on unemployment now. She is having a tough time and has had no interviews yet. She is using her 401K and it's almost gone. When unemployment runs out she'll have to sell the house and probably file. I wonder how many people like this there are. Probably quite a few.

There but for the grace of God go I. Not to mention a lot of other people, too. I'd like to think I had things covered in the face of adversity, but I know enough to realize that there are more potential bad scenarios out there than I have plans.

Wow her expenses must be in the sky. If her 401 is almost gone in two months she either had next to nothing in it or is spending like crazy. Having been there before, there are many many ways to stretch $'s and other ways to earn $ other than one's primary field. (Jen, get your mind out of the gutter)
