I have been amazed at the usual level of "getting along" from the regulars on this board. Name-calling and arguing isn't the norm here. Trouble starts when people from other areas of the DIS search on political words and find their way into this group. Maybe I'm biased (OK, I AM biased), but I didn't see any reportable posts until the unknown names started showing up.

I don't see the need to ban specific topics. We usually are able to stay away from subjects that we know will stir up trouble. We just tend to forget that anything posted here is open for the world to see, not just the regulars. We just need to save the hot-button topics for other meeting locations. It's safer that way.

There was one poster in particular who not only saw fit to stir the pot with us, but started a thread about on the community board which was also deleted. If you want to go to the source of the issue, Scott, that would be the individual to seek out.

I am a little confused by your comment? I am not new to the Dis I am mainly a lurker on the camping boards. I only go to other dis boards when I have free time. I usually only comment/post on the main camping board but have been a part of a few camp. comm. threads. I am not a regular on the community board. I know I have under 500 comments but I have been here since 2007 so how am I new?

Lucy, I don't think he was talking about you. You are a camping board regular, and some of your hot buttons were hit. There were folks from other boards coming over here just to start trouble

"Does that 'splain anythin', Lucy?" refers to Desi Arnez and Lucille Ball (Ricky and Lucy Ricardo). Ricky was famous for saying "You got some 'splain to do Lucy!"

She wasn't referring to you, Lucy. She was referring to the folks who jumped into that thread that are not normally found on the Camping Community forum. They normally hang out on the Community Board (which daily redefines the word "rude"), and when they cmae over here they brought the attitude with them. The ones that had little or no posts in their count were obviously people who were making up new user names just to join the arguments.

As in "they were pulling your chain" or "they were pushing your buttons." They were here to start a fight and enjoy the results. That's the normal mode of operation on the Community Board.

In all fairness...Im pretty sure Im the sole person to blame here. My fried chicken/orange soda comment went much further than I intended. It was intended to get a reaction...but I wasnt quite expecting THAT reaction. Do what you feel is appropriate, Scott....no hard feelings from me.

Well, I guess I'll post my response here and take my chances that someone will think I'm racist or whatever. Below is the point I was trying to make when I started that thread.

President Obama's inauguration is estimated at $165 million and there were 1.5 - 2 million in attendance.

President Bush's inauguration cost $115 million and 400,000 attended.

Kind of puts it in perspective huh?

Where to begin? First, let me say when I read this post, I hoped it was a child that wrote it, because the whole "the last guy spent this much" argument is sooo very childish. This isn't about the last guy, this is about the new guy stepping up to the plate and showing some financial responsibility in our current economic situation.

Second, you want perspective? Okay, here goes... on average, a typical, urban US homeless shelter houses approximately 100,000 people per year. This includes more than 16,000 children.
The cost to operate said shelter, on average, runs approximately between $300-$500K per year.
Soo....if instead of spending approximately $160 million dollars on the inauguration, that money (or even 1/2 of that money!) was allocated toward HUD and it's many homeless programs, how many US citizens could we have helped? There is MY perspective!!

A majority of this thread is entirely racist and makes me sick to my stomach that people like this exist.

Racist??? The only "color" I'm seeing right now is green and our new leader's lack of responsibility with it!!!!!!!

It had nothing to do with you..the racist accusations started way before you and the chicken. That sounded weird ..but you know what I mean.
