We are in a dilemma. :confused3 what to do ---- what to do

We currently have reservations for standard view at YC CL level, but would really like to be able to see illuminations at night from the balcony.

We are BIG Balcony people.

Is is worth paying the extra $$ and placing the request for illuminations view? What are our chances of getting the water view w/illuminations?

Per IPO, there are only a few rooms. We are booked a year in advance (going in May :cool1: ) Is it anyone's experience that those who book this early generally tend to get the rooms they want? I have heard rooms are not assigned until about 5 days prior to visit.

Sorry for long post, but I really want to act on this.

Would love any feedback. :goodvibes

I tried calling CR IPO today with this question, and I got a message that they are closed today, but will open tomorrow, but I thought one of you great experts might know the answer, sooo

Does anyone know if the rooms on the 14th floor are specifically designated smoking and non-smoking? We have a 2 queen bed room reserved. I know that there are three of those, and a handicapped as well, for a total of four rooms that we have a shot at. My son has severe asthma, and I need to know if the room we are getting is a definite non-smoking room. Does anyone know if there are specific non-smoking queen rooms, and which ones they are? I want to make sure that they don't put us in a smoking room that has been "cleaned". I have had that experience, and it just doesn't work for us. Thanks!

Just bumping this in case anyone can help. Thanks!

Even all the lagoon view CL rooms can't see Illuminations but some can. My advice is keep in contact with your IPO. Make sure they know this is what you really want but don't be pushy about it, just nicely ask and remind. I find that helps most of the time.

Closed? I didn't know they could be closed, besides off hours i mean.

Actually i believe that there are only 3 queen rooms with one of those 3 being the handicapped room. There are 2 other king rooms for a total of 5 regular rooms on that floor.

Mr. Mike, you are correct. CR 14th floor has 3 queen bed rooms. 1 regular and 1 handicapped on the MK side and 1 regular on the Bay Lake side. Kaceyisme, the IPO department should be open by now so hopefully you can get your answers today.

Disney Longhorn, if you really want an Illuminations view, you might want to consider switching to the BWI. Their concierge lounge has a nightly view of it. Just the way the building is situated on the property, I think you are going to be hardpressed to find this type of room view at the YC. We too had a standard view booked and we overlooked the parking lot and convention center roof. If you even want a chance at it, then you definitely need to upgrade your room to water view. I believe the room assignors look at check in date and not when you actually made the reservation when they do their assignments. For example, if someone booked 6 months in advance, but is checking in 2 days before you and requested an Illuminations view, they would receive it over you because the room assignor hasn't even seen your reservation yet. So, unfortunately no, I don't think it makes any difference as to when you make the actual reservation. The IPO department actually covers all 3 Epcot resorts, so you might want to ask Alana, or whoever you're working with, if you might have a better chance either switching to BC or BWI.

They had a message on the answering service that said "You have reached the IPO for Grand Floridian and Contemporary ... we are closed today (July 13), please call back tomorrow between 8 am, etc. . . .. I was surprised too! I didn't think that they would be closed during the regular hours.

Thanks for that clarification. I am anxious to find out about the non-smoking/smoking room situation on the concierge floor.

I called at 8:30 this morning, but of course did not reach a live person. I left a message, and hopefully they will get back to me today.

I just wanted to post that I've been in contact with a GF conceirge itinerary planner for the past two days, and it's been great!

She's been very helpful and very fast! I've gotten a reply to all my e-mails the same day I send them. She's going to take care of my PS's (the 90 day mark is next week!), will make sure all the restaurants know we're on our honeymoon, will make our limo arrangements for us, will have the bride & groom Mickey ears (head band for me!) in the room upon arrival, make sure we have a fridge in our room for DFi's meds, she got us FANTASTIC seats for Cirque, will book the special events we want (Fantasmic Dinner package, Wildlife Discovery Tour at AK, and the Segway tour) and has made a few suggestions on special things we can do for our honeymoon.

Normally I do this stuff on my own, I don't mind. But this year, between planning the wedding and selling my condo, buying a house, and moving this summer, I really appreciate someone else handleing the details.

Way to go Conceirge!

ok - update.

I spoke to a wonderfully helpful woman at the CR. She didn't know the answer to my question, so she went and spoke Chrissy at the IPO, who advised her that all of the rooms on the 14th floor are non-smoking. I am so relieved!!

I have read a few comments about guests having chocolates or little gifts in the rooms when they arrive. Is this something the concierge staff do on their own or do you have to request it? Kids might get a kick out of a little something in the room.

:flower: :flower: :flower:

Barb, that's something that we usually request through the IPO staff. They'll be more than happy to pick up some items to have waiting in your room upon arrival, you just need to give them your credit card information. As for the chocolates, each resort offers something a little bit different. The YC/BC has a little treasure chest filled with chocolate shells for instance. It is a nice suprise for the kids.

Just FYI. As of July 2005, Sugar Loaf Concierge at the Grand Floridian will now be full service. It will mirror RPC exactly in food and beverages served and in hours of operation. I confirmed this via email with the GF IPO. They will now offer alcohol and the cordials/desserts from 8pm- 10pm.

Wonderful addition and change!

Me too! We're going Nov 29. Hope you have a great honeymoon! We're celebrating our 10th anniversary when we go (we honeymooned at the Poly).

Not that the GF is my favorite, but I'm wondering if Disney will now charge the same price for both RPC in the Main Bldg and Sugar Loaf?

The prices are out through 2006 with only the small increase in price that all resorts had. Still a big price difference between RPC and SL.

Considering it still lacks the room views (no lagoon or castle view from SugarLoaf) and the lounge is small, with no TV, I hope that they take all this into consideration and keep the price reasonable. It's just nice having that as a second, less expensive option for enjoying concierge.

I wonder if they will add a TV eventually, since they are obviously making some big changes? Is SL the ONLY concierge lounge without a television?

Am I the only one who would hate to see a TV in the lounge at Sugar Loaf? It just seems too small of a space for that to me.

With regards to the views, aren't there quite a few rooms at RPC that also only have courtyard or marina views? There even appear to be some that face toward the monorail station and spa area. I'd take the SL views over that any day personally.

I too like the lounge setup at SugarLoaf as it is. It reminds me of a Bed & Breakfast. Very cozy. All the rooms in the main building with the marina view can also see the castle beautifully. We've laid in bed and watched it change colors. The rest of the views are lagoon, which overlook the beach, the Poly and Spaceship Earth in the distance. Finally, there's the rooms that overlook the courtyard garden. I haven't stayed in one of these yet, but I would think that if you look to the left you'd see the castle and if you look to the right, you'd see the lagoon. There are only 3 rooms that I'm aware of in the main building which have slightly less than flattering views. Those are the honeymoon turret suites down on that corner. From there, you would see the monorail area, the spa and around to the lagoon.
