Used Uber quite a bit this past week at WDW......

Thanks-- I kind of hate the structure behind Uber (philosophically) but it's great to know it's easy to use at WDW. I've had some not-so-great cab experiences there!

Can you tell me some of the rates you paid from different points? Thinking about using during our trip next week. We are staying at Pop Century.

Thanks!

I loved it on my last trip too. I didn't use it to/from the parks but it enabled me to stay on-site for a conference at an off-site hotel, and the service was fabulous. I had one driver who got a little lost, which ran up the fare, and when I noted that in my review my card was credited the difference back in just a couple days' time (without me requesting a refund - I just mentioned that the ride took longer/cost more than it should have).

Epcot to Bonnet Creek under $7. So easy! Gave us the freedom to have my parents take the car back with the kids when they got tired and let us stay at the park late.

On past trips bus service to and from Downtown Disney was very slow. Thinking about Uber from Pop to DS. And maybe from parks back to Pop.

Thanks again everyone.

Downtown Disney buses are awful- and this is from someone who never rents a car at Disney

Just a word of note, there is a lengthy is a Uber thread on the transportation board and the mod said no discussing of rates were permitted. No idea if the rule will apply here to just thought I'd mention it

oops I'm sorry mods- feel free to delete my post if I broke any rules- I did not mean to.

I wonder why? Have they ever posted why? I don't know how Uber works so not sure if that is an Uber issue (secret fares?) Or a Dis rule. I always thought taxi fares were fair game to discuss is that not right or different?

No a reason was not given
The good news is it is easy to get a fare estimate right in the app

Weird you can't discuss rates when for the most part it's based on distance. But you can go into the app and set a pick up and drop off location and get a fare estimate for that moment even if you're not really there. You can look at a few routes and get an idea. (Note that rates can vary by how busy they are - they call it surge pricing - so you should always check before actually requesting the ride - takes an extra 5 seconds). Not sure how common that is at Disney - mostly hear about it at home on weekend evenings in NYC.

No worries I am sure a mod will correct if they want to, not just want to be mods. :sad2:
Thanks though for the info with prices as I was wondering what roughly it would be without having to download the app etc. This gives us a good idea if it is worth it.

Can I be nosey and ask why? Like I just posted I know nothing about the service but would be interested in learning more.

Yes, sure! Instead of hiring drivers, Uber connects people who are willing to drive with those who need drivers. The issue is that now, because of a great, easy to use app, a large market share for transportation is now going to people who may experience a great short-term benefit, but are themselves without the benefits of a real employer. Uber does not do background checks on their drivers and the cars are not subject to the same regulations as cars used by licensed transportation companies. This can lead to a more risky service with fewer protections in place for consumers. The drivers themselves do not have access to a stable job with benefits, health insurance, or steady income. There is no regulated price, which means when demand is high you can make a lot of money (at the expense of customers!), but when demand is low or average you are making less than regulated, metered car services. In the short term everyone wins, but in the long run it has the potential to replace really good jobs with mediocre ways of earning cash on the side. Taxi drivers in NYC have definitely felt the pinch of Uber. I really hope that this causes more established transportation to get with the 20th century and make better ways for consumers to access their services. I for one get really upset when a cab driver can't or won't accept my credit card. That is just inexcusable these days.

ETA: Although I myself haven't used Uber yet (or Lyft, or Air BNB), I have no issues with people choosing to use them and I'm sure I will use them one day, too. These are just my qualms with the advent of this new, popular business model--no judgement/argument intended!

Has anyone had any luck finding an Uber driver with a booster seat? I plan on bringing my daughters but it'd be nice not to have to carry hers around if I don't have to! We're planning on using Uber for Resort to Resort travel.

Thanks for the info!
I am a worse case scenario scaredy act all the time! Ask my friends, it is bad!!! So I'd be too afraid to use this service, I'm sure. A random person willing to drive us somewhere and save us $5 sounds like a great idea until my imagination runs wild and creates all the what if's possible......
