Quick question about use year. Having just bought, I choose June as most of our vacations will be in the November/December timeframe. I think this will allow us to cancel due to unforeseen problems and still be able to either bank 100% of the points or have six months to use the points. Thats the way I read the documents and seems to be logical. Am I correct and does this make sense?

With a June use year, you would have to bank on or before November 30th in order to bank 100% of your points. As long as you keep that in mind you should have no problem.

Personally, I would have chosen a later use year if my trips were usually in November/December. If you need to cancel a December trip after November 30th, you can bank only 50% of your points.

We usually visit WDW in April and September. We have a February use year and it works out just fine.

Lew - Good points on your post. I thought about the timing like this - I will know by November 30th whether we are going to stay in BCV during that November/December timeframe (I better have already made the reservations). If we are not staying then plenty of time to bank the points. If I have to cancel (at the last minute) then I still have another six months to use them. If I know I am going and didn't bank the points - then my cancellation will be a the last minute, probably within 30 days - therefore I want a fairly wide window to use the "restricted points."

I didn't get the impression that DVC wouldn't let me have October/November/December use years (although I know some months are not available). What sort of pushed me in this direction was that fact that there were not many use choices at HH - June still being one of them.

You may want to consider a purchase at BCV if you are interested in mainly staying on site - especially if you will travel to WDW during the popular Nov/Dec period. If you own at HH you will have to wait until 7 months ahead to reserve and that may kimit your opportunities.

Having said that, non-home reservations are certainly possible at all times of the year. Just be aware that reservations are always easier to make at your home resort using the 11 month priority.

Good Luck!

Doc - Thanks - reading these great boards had already convinced me to buy where I want to stay. Total purchase was 300 points at BCV plus a 70 point add-on at HH. The HH buy was specifically to be able to make reservations at the 11 month window.

You do know that you can only use the 70 HH points when booking at 11 months at HH. If you need or want to use points from BCV at HH you can't make ressies with those points until 7 month window
