Use Year Question

If we buy into SSR through Disney, do we get to choose the our use year? Or is it assigned according to when you buy? We plan to buy next month, but tend to vacation in the Fall and Winter. I think we'd like our use year to be September or October. How does this work?

Hi,
we just purchased SSR at present the earliest you can have is August.
thru DVC directly. But if you by resale it is whatever is left on that use
year being sold. fyi we chose November as our use year because of
work obligations. (usually go to wdw Nov/March) the use year does not
really matter as you will have your allotment of pts whenever that
month starts.

If you really want September or October, just ask your guide - others have requested specific use years and received them. Unless they have already sold out those months or it somehow impacts your incentive (and then the guide will tell you), I'm sure you can get what you want.

FWIW, we have an August use year and it works just fine for Fall & Winter travel. You have until the end of January to bank up to 100% of your annual allotment. Since you realy need to cancel at least 31 days in advance (to avoid the holding account), an August use year works well for trips scheduled August - February.

Also, try not to worry too much about getting a "less than perfect" use year. Your travel times are bound to vary over the course of your membership. What is perfect right now, might not be so perfect later.

Unless something has changed, there are no January, May, July or November Use Years. DVC will usually allow you to choose a Use Year but, as Carol noted, there may be limitations based on current incentives. Your guide will certainly advise.
