I am considering joining DVC. I have a question regarding Disney buying back points.

If I join this year and want my use year to be December, will I be able to sell my points for Dec - Nov. '05 and have a new allotment of points Dec 1, 05?

Every use year you get a new allotment of points. If Dec was your use year you would get a new allotment on December 1st.

Your interpretation is correct.

It's worth noting that you could also BORROW against your Dec '05 points if you decided to travel a bit earlier.

Greetings~

We are going through a similar circumstance... We just bought (infact my DW just called to say our welcome package/papers arrived on our doorstep). We picked August as our use year and since we just took a trip in may we didn't forsee us being able to go down again this year (we sold back our 1st years points). We are going to get fresh new 160pts on August 1st, 2005.

We were also instructed that "if" we did want to take a trip from Aug 1st 2004 - July 31st 2005 we could borrow from next years allotment.

So, applying to your circumstance, if you join right now with a December Use year (and you have DVC buy back your 1st years points) you will not have points from Dec 1st, 2004 thru Nov 31st 2005 (that is unless you decided to borrow ;) ). On Dec 1st 2005 your points will reset and you will get your full allotment (less of course if you do decide to take a trip this year and borrow)

Does that make sense at all?

Yes, you have answered my questions.

Thank you very much!!

I am waiting for some info to arrive from Disney any day now but these boards have been very helpful.

Your welcome...

Believe me that the information you will get on this board is so much more insightful than the actual Disney Stuff. Keep looking around the backlogs and current posts on this forum and you will see that a majority of your questions will be answered.

The attitude of the members on here and the willingness to answer the "newbies" questions is what made me decide to take the plunge and join the club.

When I get home I have a phone call to Quality Assurance and a bunch of paperwork to fill out so that I can send it back and make my membership official... Those temporary cards only make me want the real things more !
