Hi! I am researching buying DVC resale and I was wondering which use year would be best. I would be vacationing at the end of May and the beginning of September each year. I cant figure out which use year would be best in case I need to bank my points. I am a nurse and we have vacation bidding by seniority so we are not guaranteed the same weeks all of the time, but those times seem to be mostly available. Thanks for your help!!

March or April UYs would be best. February would also work since its banking deadline is September 30.

April would be good for you. You want your usual anticipated travel times to be early in your UY so that if you have to cancel you have time to reschedule within your UY or bank. There’s no May UY, so April would work. Your banking deadline would be November 30.

Thank you! So what if I wont know until December if I can get the week in May? Would a June use year work?
Sorry for so many questions but the use year really confuses me.

UY has nothing to do with when you book. It has to do which points you use and whether you are traveling in the banking window.

So, you want to travel during the first 8 months of a UY so if you have to cancel, you can still bank the points,

It doesn’t matter if you book 11 months out or 6 months ahead. It’s the travel time that matters.

Having to wait until December to book a May trip is more about what will be available vs the UY.

For example an April UY works well for your travel dates. But, whether yoy book a May trip at 11 months out..June… or 6 months out..December…you’d still be traveling in the 2nd month of your April UY which gives you lots of flexibility if something happens.

Thanks for the info - I guess I worded my question incorrectly. I would book my May trip 11 months in advance but would know in December if I received the vacation time or if I didnt, I would have to bank the points. But I am starting to get this use year stuff! Thank you!

UY does not impact when you can make a resort reservation. It only matters which year the points get pulled from based on when the reservation occurs. For instance, I have a December UY. Right now, I'm in my 2020 UY and any reservations I make for stays between now and November 30 would draw from my 2020 points. Any reservation that falls from December 1, 2021 - November 30, 2022 would pull from my 2021 UY.

Home resort booking priority is 11-7 months before your expected travel dates. At 7 months members can use their points to book at any DVC resort where the points are eligible to be used. By 5-6 months out, some resorts will begin to show scarce availability, especially for studios.

Imagine that you're already an owner with an April UY. You've booked a trip for the end of May 2022. That trip would use April 2022 points. Those points have a banking deadline of November 30, 2022. If you got word in December 2021 that you were denied your May 2022 vacation, you could still cancel and have almost 11 months to bank the points.

Oh thank you so much! That explanation helps me to understand it!!
