Here's the scenario. June is my use year. I currently have no points left for 2013. 66 left for 2014. Okay..no problem so far. Here's my question. I was talking to another DVC owner..they gave me the impression that I might have a hard time booking my Dec '14 stay at the Grand Californian since I wouldn't be able to book it until May....that rule of fours thing. I 'thought' that would apply if it was '13 points I'm using. But if I'm using '14 pts for a stay in Dec, I should be fine, right? Or am I just confused??

I don't know what the rule of fours is, but you shouldn't have any trouble booking a December '14 stay with June '14 points. If you are booking at your home resort, you'll be able to book 11 months in advance in January '14. If you are using non-home resort points, you can book at 7 months - May '14. You will be able to use your '14 points and borrow June '15 points if needed for your reservation.

The UY and booking windows are two entirely different things. You can book before your June 2014 points are "active" as long as they will be active by the time of your reservation. In your case, your June '14 points are good from June '14 to May '15, and therefore, ok for a Dec '14 reservation. You can borrow your June '15 UY points into the June '14 to May '15 UY if you need some extra points for the reservation.

The Rule of Four does not apply to DVC Resort Reservations, nor for Disney Collection Reservations at the Disneyland Resort.

See, I thought it sounded odd!!! My friend is always confused about stuff. Knew you guys would have the right info! I got all worried for nothing. She had me doubting myself! Thanks!

That you cannot book Dec 2014 at VGC until May has nothing to do with Rule of Four. If you do not own at VGC, you can book no more than 7 months out from date of arrival and thus the "May" limitation for a Dec trip. Moreover, VGC in December could be difficult to get at 7 months out. If you own at VGC, you can book 11 months out in Jan 2014.

Rule of Four prevents you from booking the Disney Collections -- non-DVC hotels (other than at Disneyland), concierge collection hotels, and Disney Adventures -- if both the trip dates and the date you call to reserve is less than four months from the end of your use year (if you call earlier than four months out you can reserve those during that last four months)

I'm just hoping I get lucky and can get just one night, Mon, Tues, Wed, during one of the first two weeks in Dec '14. We'll see. I know it's going to be hard but I'll give it a shot.
