I just recently purchased into SSR. B/c my DS had a April use year I elected to make mine the same. I'm looking to book a grand villa next December 2005 and was wondering how my use year will play into the reservation. I was hoping to book the trip in January by using all 250 of my 2005 points and then borrow the reamining from my 2006 points. Can I do this at the 11 month January window or do I need to wait till April which is my use year? I'm a newbie to this site but have found it a great resource for planning. Thanks in advance for the advice.

OOPS! forgot to mention that I sold 2004's points back to Disney.

If your use month is April you will have whatever points you bought on your account now, today, April 1st. If that is the case and you don't plan on going MAKE SURE YOU BANK YOUR POINTS. Then in January you will have those points plus the points you will get April 1, 2005 that can be used toward your December 2005 reservation.

Use year has nothing to do with when you can make a reservation. If you sold back your 2004 points, you won't have to bank either.

You will just call at the 11 month mark. The CM helping you will deduct your 2005 points and tell you how many from 2006 you will need to borrow.

You can make the reservtion in January at the 11 month window. Here's why:

Your 2005 points are good for stays between 4/1/2005 and 3/31/2006.

Your 2006 points are good for stays between 4/1/2006 and 3/31/2007.

You desired vacation dates fall within your 2005 use year.

If you do not have enough 2005 points, you can borrow from your 2006 use year. Once borrowed to make the reservation, those borrowed points become good for stays between 4/1/2005 and 3/31/2006. The borrowed points must be used prior to 3/31/2006 or they will be lost. Once borrowed, points cannot be returned to their original use year.

Use year has nothing to do with the reservation window. That is always 11 months from check out at your home resort and 7 months from check out for non-home resorts. Points do not have to be in your account when you call, only when you arrive.

HTH - if it doesn't totally answer your question, post again.

Best wishes -

P. S. re your 2004 points:

You sold your 2004 points back to Disney. If you hadn't, those points would have been good for stays between the "date your SSR building opens" and 3/31/2005. If you still had the 2004 points, you would have had to bank them into your 2005 use year if you wanted to use them for a December 2005 reservation.

You may want to do this calculation before you call...it's been rumored to happen that occassionally the CM's at MS make mistakes. Unlikely if you only own one contract, but I've read that stuff happens.

Many of us also use either a spreadsheet or a DVC planning application (such as the one from caskbill has at http://web.nalu.net/~wneth/dvcplanner.htm) to keep track of their points.

Hope this helps,
Joe
p.s. I'm not endorsing the caskbill planner...don't use it myself but lots of PC using folks around here do.
