If I typically vacation in December, should I go with a January use year?

Also, I just did an add on for BLT and the guide told me I should stick with the use year I have on my SSR contract which is September, so I did. I have not closed yet so would like to change that. Does anybody know if I change to January, will I get points now and then again in January?

Thanks everyone this board and the people on it are the best!!!!

1) Ideally you want your UY to be the earliest month you would normally travel, to allow you to cancel without restrictions. For typical December visitors, January would be the worst use year, since you can only cancel without restrictions in the first 8 mos of your year (assuming you cancel at least 31 days in advance). December (or September or October) would be a better UY.

2) My understanding is that it is best to keep all contracts in the same UY, if possible.

if you add-on, you are pretty much stuck with the same UY month. if you want a new UY, you'd have to buy a new 160+ pt master contract.

fortunately, you do NOT want a different UY (there's no such thing as a jan UY BTW...but feb would also be a poor choice).

read this thread to understand why sept is a good choice for you.

since BLT isn't open yet, i wouldn't worry about getting points from prior UYs. that applies more to older resorts.

Your current UY is a very good one for your December trips. You want your UY to start shortly before travel so Sept is a good one.

For BLT, the first set of points they are giving are 2009. So, your first set will be for Sept 09 UY.

Good luck!

By the way, there is no January use year. They don't sell January, May, July or November. I assume to simplify bookkeeping.

Another thing that is confusing to new members is when points are "deposited" in your account and when you can use them. They don't "deposit" when your use year starts. They are already in your account for as many years as you need. For example, I have an April use year. If I look at my account online, it shows April 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012. So I could make an 11 month reservation now at my home resort and use 2010 points as current and borrow 2011.

I am new to all this, where can I go to read the "rules". I am sure someone gave me a book or something but it meant little at the time.
