Use Year, Add on, Different Resort

We are in the process of considering an add-on to our contract at SSR right now. I know about the current promos, and understand UY and how it works.

My question is in regards to buying a contract direct from DVC at a sold out resort. I just want to verify info that my guide has given me, because if I had done that BEFORE buying I would have had better information going into that contract. (I LOVE my SSR, but there were other issues, so I want to double check with all you fine folks first now)

My guide tells me there are only small contracts available at BWV's right now, and they all have different UY's than mine (mine is August). So in essence, buying from DVC is the same as buying resale - you have to wait for the right size contract to come up, and it has to have the same UY you already have, unless you want to have two different UY's? I didn't realize buying from DVC direct was just like resale in that the UY of the original contract stays with the sale.

Is it true that they would add a new contract on to my current contract as a new extension? like .002, or .003?

Disney will only sell you the same use year as your Master contract unless you buy at least 150 points (new contract) and insist on a different use year.

I'm sure you guide was just telling you about the inventory of BWV points on hand. Since BWV are sold out, Disney can only sell you what they have available. When/If they exercise the ROFR, they may get more points and hopefully, some will have your use year.

Yes, Disney considers an add on bought from them as an extension to your Master contract - thus the .xxx numbering. This is good for managing your points - for all practical purposes, it is as though you bought all the points at once. If you wish, you may still sell the add on contracts separately from the Master.

One difference with buying directly from Disney is that Disney can break up a contract. If they exercise ROFR on a 200 point BWV contract in your Use Year and you are looking to add on 75 points, they can sell you 75 points from that block of 200. So while you may have to go on a waitlist for BWV points, it probably won't be a very long wait and certainly nothing like the wait for BCV points.

There is a thread around here somewhere where people post how long they had to wait to add on points. It seems to get updated mostly by people waiting for BCV points because those are the people who do end up waiting the longest for their points. I'll see if I can find it and will post a link to it.

Not many reports on people who waited for BWV points which says either there isn't usually a wait or people are not adding their info to the thread!

I have seen fairly regular reports of people adding on at BWV so I don't think you will have to wait very long. Good luck!
