Use it UP January

Aside from basics, I plan to use what we have on hand to cook dinners, for my lunches, etc. Unfortunately, this means that in a few weeks I'll have to do a major grocery stock back up trip...but we need to use up what we have in the freezers (meat, lean cuisines, etc.).

Grocery trip is tomorrow, so my pantry is pretty bare. I considered getting takeout tonight but instead we used up half a bag of frozen chicken breasts (cooked with a frozen half bag of pepper strips and some salsa, served on tortillas with a sprinkle of cheese). It was delicious and probably saved at least $20 on dinner.

Great thread!

I spent about 20 minutes tonight consolidating spices and cleaning up that cupboard. I have 3 half used tins of baking cocoa which is ridiculous. I didn't think of adding the soy packets to the soy sauce so I'm going to do that now.

I also cleaned out a basket that I keep above the fridge that just gets loaded with misc items and found several gift cards- those will be used before cash is spent.

could use some suggestions on how to use our leftover Christmas ham!

This is a bad month for us, both kids college tuition is due and then I have to pay for 4 AP tests for youngest, so I need to save my money. I was planning ot eat out of the pantry for the month but supplement with fresh fruit and dairy.

I make a cheesy potato soup and put ham in it. Nothing more is needed as it is very filling and on cold days so good!

I'm on a mission to use everything up in my pantry. We're moving in a little over 5 months and I want to use everything up. As such, I'm trying to incorporate at least one thing into each meal from something I already have in the pantry. I had a pot roast seasoning packet and some potatoes I needed to use anyways, so tonight, we're having a pot roast to get rid of the seasoning packet and potatoes. Tomorrow we're getting rid of a few things that have been sitting in the pantry. I had a chili seasoning packet, a couple cans of kidney beans and a cornbread mix, so I bought the rest of the stuff needed to make chili so those can be all used up.

It'll be interesting to see how long it takes me to get rid of everything in there. Once its gone, I plan on putting together a menu for the week and only replenishing with what is on the menu until we move, so I don't develop a stock pile of items that will go to waste.

Pantry is my goal too! I might be able to skip a trip or two to the grocery store if I use everything in there up....

It was rummaging around a bit under the kitchen and bathroom sinks this moring and I was amazed at what I found. There is a large number of bathroom and kithchen supples that I will not have to buy until at least summer if I start using up all of these items!! (shampoo, bath soap, dish detergent, deoderant, window cleaner, etc..)

What is your favorite way to use leftover mashed potatoes? Especially for breakfast?

What is your favorite way to use leftover mashed potatoes? Especially for breakfast?

Potato pancakes! Mix potatoes with an egg and some bread crumbs...make into patties and fry! My kids love these! Serve with eggs if you want a big meal or just a side of fruit for a lighter breakfast.......P
