On our next trip, we are traveling with my brother's family. I got is a bounceback free dining offer for August 2017 and we are booked into AS Music with free QSDP. My 2 kids are teens and they have a 3.5 yr old DD. We are staying 14 nights so have a lot of credits to play with.

If we upgrade their room to DDP (to share with the whole group of 7), would it be possible (depending on individual servers) for my teens to use some of the extra Child TS credits for kids meals? Definitely not in buffets, but I am thinking for Sci Fi, Sanaa, and the like.

I don't see any reason why you couldn't. It's just a payment method and as long as you're ordering a kids meal, I don't see why you couldn't use the associated credit to pay for it.

I'm confused. Do you mean the DELUXE plan? If there are three of them in the room, there won't be any extra meals. If you use the child TS credits for the teens, what will you use for the 3.5 yr old?

I mean the regular plan. We have a 3.5 yr old (who will be on DDP) and 2 teens (on QSDP). I'd like to use the 3.5 yr old's child TS credits to pay for the 2 teens to eat kids meals at a couple of TS places.

I think you may run into issues with it, especially if you try it in Epcot.

What is the 3.5 year old going to eat? I still don't see where this makes financial sense. How many TS meals are you thinking of doing?

We are there for 14 nights and plan to eat about 6-7 TS meals (pay to upgrade 2 adults, 1 child to DDP so we will have 28 adult TS credits and 14 child TS credits to share with our group of 7). Since we are only going to be able to stretch the adult TS credits to 6-7 meals, we will have a bunch of child TS credits leftover. If my teens can use the child TS credits (for child meals which they will prefer in some restaurants anyway), then that will save us money.

I have shared credits on deluxe DDP, but of course that is easier since they do not distinguish between child and adult credits. I was hoping that now since Disney has relaxed the rules and mostly allow sharing of credits with friends NOT on the DDP, that I will be able to do this.

My plan is to do this in Sanaa, Sci Fi, and Coral Reef.

That does answer the financial advantage question. It SHOULD work the way you want it to, but there's no guarantee. The wording prohibiting the sharing of credits was taken out of the brochure, but there is nothing saying you CAN share credits. No one has reported having any problems doing so, so I think I would chance it.

That's what I figured :) Just wanted to make sure there wasn't anything I was missing and hoping for stories from folks who have done this.

Anyway, I will give it a shot. At worst I'll have to pay for some child meals/apps for my teens and have to use the child TS credits for QS meals or exchange it for snacks. I think that will be worth the risk as it will save me about $300 for each Disney adult I DON'T upgrade to DDP.

This was many years ago (pre-DDP), but my picky eating teen was refused a children's meal at the San Angel Inn and told she had to order from the adult menu because of her age.

Thanks - always good to know about potential issues.

Have you tried pricing upgrading your room to the regular plan instead? Then you get more adult meals. I haven't done the math, but if you are paying out of pocket for part of it anyway, it may work out well.

I'd upgrade your room and not their room, and then just buy the 3.5 year old's food OOP or have her share off all the adult meals.

I mean, 2 teens - one of them must want to eat and kid's meals are small.

Sanaa, Coral Reef and Sci Fi are Disney owned restaurants so it is more likely that you will be able to use more than one child's credit at a time. The third party restaurants, such as San Angel, are less flexible because they are reimbursed by Disney according to the rules of the dining plan.

Thank you everyone! We decided to splurge - and everyone has the regular DDP now. Dining is a huge part of our Disney trips for my DH. I managed to work out a plan to do it within his initial budget...but after more thought, we decided to go ahead and spend more and upgrade everyone. I am still gasping a bit at the price increase...but I know we will enjoy it thoroughly :)
