USB chargers no longer allowed?

Surprised that my two Anker USB chargers were confiscated getting on the Treasure. Had no issue with the Dream last year.

Is this a new thing?

Pic below— just USB ports, not an extension cord or way to plug anything in.

Maybe a new agent who doesn’t understand that’s not a “multi-plug”? We were allowed similar items on the Magic for our May 30 sailing.

Frustrating. I know the rules pretty well and thought it was ridiculous. It was challenging to charge our phones and magic bands for a family of 4 since they took these away from us.

I’ll bring in my carry-on in the future.

Did you ask? I bet they would have returned it if you asked. You must have a lot of devices with heavy users if you need that many charging outlets. Last cruise I don't recall having to charge any devices over the 7 days. My Pixel goes a week on a charge, charged last Saturday and it is currently at 38% a week later, and my Amazon Fire will go 2 weeks on a charge.

We find we need to charge more often as our devices are trying to find a network. There are just 2 of us and we don’t purchase internet but between iPads with books, Apple Watch, phones, etc, we charge many items daily.

From my working days I just know just staggering charging is really easy. On a cruise, I would imagine you could charge tablets while you are at dinner and things like phones while you slept or were in the stateroom getting cleaned up.
Although, again from my working days, I realize it is just human nature to not think about charging a device until it is dead. As the person who had to call people when they overslept, it was not uncommon for them to use their smart phone as their ONLY phone and alarm clock, and when their battery died the alarm didn't go off and there was no way to call them.

I looked up that item and it has a 5 ft cable. I wonder if they construed that to be an extension cord, its main purpose might be charging devices that use USB but it also has an incredible length in the cord that goes into the power socket.

4 magicbands right off the bat. We found this made quite a difference in number of suitable number of slots needed/desired.

Sure, you can schedule so that you’re not charging MBs at night when the family also has other depleted devices from the day’s activities.

Or avoid that inconvenience by supplying your family with something that doesn’t require planning around.

Different strokes and all that, but I don’t see having 2 of these as being over-prepared.

I've brought the exact same charger on every cruise that I've been on and I've never had trouble. I think someone messed up.

For us we bring two portable chargers. We used to bring more but that was because they were older and stored less power, the two newer ones we have last longer. Typically we charge one (which takes a very very long time to charge) and use the other for the day and then charge that one and so on.

My kindle is old and thus suffers on the battery so while it used to hold the charge for the whole trip it no longer does that though I only charge once while on a trip.

Cell phones use up batteries quickly especially using wifi though specific to me my cell phone is old and thus doesn't hold a charge as well, that's where the portable power banks come into play but when I'm in the room I'll use the outlet not the power bank.

Now people with kids may have multiple tablets for the kids, may also have their own tablets, etc.

Personally I don't like to overload any device so I'd bring two of what the OP has just to spread it out. That's actually why we ended up buying another converter so that one converter wasn't being used to charge too much at once (cell phones in addition to the portable chargers). Technically for us on our cruise with a different line we used our converter to charge our USB devices if the outlets by the bed were already in use for another device, a converter for US devices isn't necessary on those ships so at that point the converter is just being used as a USB charger. That particular cruise line requires you to unplug devices when not in your room.

Clearly I am behind the times. You can recharge Magicbands and they need it? My only experience......assuming we are talking about the same Disney Magicbands....... was at WDW. We were there a week and they were our device for opening our room door and paying for everything at Disney and if there was a way to charge them, I was not aware of it, and they never needed it.

The old MagicBands didn't need to be charged, but the newer MagicBand+ models do if you want the lights and vibrations to work. Only the newer models work on the cruise ships. (And the ones sold for and on the ships are called DisneyBand+ for trademark reasons, but they're the same thing and regular MB+s work, too.)

They could have asked, as there was no harm in doing so. But chances are, it wouldn’t have changed the outcome.

My experience centered around gym equipment. I had a piece of gym equipment (a tricep extension bar) confiscated by security on the Fantasy last year. I had brought the same equipment on board five times before without issue. In fact, I even explained that the fitness center has a similar bar, and the fitness manager had used mine previously and thought it was great. So they had no issues with it.

Despite this, the security supervisor stated that gym equipment was not allowed under the “Recreational and Sporting Equipment” section of the restricted items list. When I pointed out that the list didn’t specifically mention “gym equipment,” they dismissed my explanation and insinuated that I should have read the website more carefully and not attempted to sneak something on board. When I pulled up the list on my phone and showed them that it didn’t mention gym equipment, they made another rude comment, gave me a look, and walked away. At that point, I just allowed them to confiscate the equipment and picked it up at the port upon disembarkation. Disappointed, but there wasn’t much else I could do.

(For context, I did speak with the Guest Services Manager and provided feedback about the unprofessional behavior of the security supervisor. To their credit, the manager apologized and acknowledged that Disney might need to update their website. That said, as of now, the site still doesn’t explicitly prohibit gym equipment. Go figure??

And Disney Cruise Line reserves the right to seize and secure any item deemed to be dangerous or pose a security or safety risk, even if it’s not on the list.

They introduced about 3 years ago MagicBand+ which does require charging.

Totally could be possible but there's very long and then there's being just a few inches shorter than me :upsidedow but it doesn't mean that the length couldn't have been part of it. I do agree the more ports the more iffy territory it could get.

Cruise lines like airlines have to also keep up with current concerns so what is allowable by one may have someone else being more cautious. I never thought SWA would be the first U.S. airlines to require power banks to be visible in use but that's the rule now although I also never thought to charge something while it was in the overhead bin or under the seat and always used my power bank within sight of myself to begin with but I digress.

MB+ is the newest generation.

They require charging for full functionality and are the only type of MB compatible with DCL.

Anker just announced a recall of a million Anker Power Banks (model A1263) because of fire hazard and perhaps the security person wasn't sure of the model.
