Ok, I think I am fairly caught up now. Gosh what you miss when you are away from tv/radio/computer. I too was wondering about eye drops. I also want to say that while I completely understand and will comply with all policies, it really is more than just what you can't live without for the flight. There have been many time I have landed somewhere and my bags were not there and didn't arrive for a day two.

My question is what are people referring to when they mention children's toys? I was just on the TSA site and didn't see any mention of children's toys (unless you are talking where no carry ons are allowed at all). Am I missing something?

I personally think the terrorists have already won, causing us to sacrifice our comfort and travel-ease. I do not think that we deserve this, but the reality is that innocent people are being killed by the US as well and we have to be prepared to face similar realities when we are at war.

I am completely bummed to not be able to take basic needs, like water and liquid meds, on a plane. I hope that there is a better way to counter this threat.

Oh my, can't we set our standards for a "terrorist victory" a little higher than "sacrificing our comfort"???? Do you really think they feel like they have succeeded by keeping CHAPSTICK and BOTTLED WATER off of airplanes?????? This is a very unserious response to a very serious threat.

By the way, the first time these guys tried to pull one of these coordinated multiplaned liquid bomb plots was in 1994 and 1995, about a decade before the invasion of Iraq.

I have a lot of empathy for those of you traveling from the UK with children and no carry-ons.

Thanks, it certainly will be interesting. I just wanted to say that I am sure every parent with a flight iminent would have thought "thank goodness it was foiled" when they first heard about all of this, and about how awful it could have been. They then would have thought "ah, now how does this affect us, we better find out. We need to think about how we can look after junior now on the plane"

I think that is perfectly acceptable IMO. 2 years ago, I wouldn't have given two hoots about it all, and would have gone along with all the restrictions without a second thought. But having toddlers you do need to think practically which is what people on this thread are doing. Everyone understands the situation and will accept it, but we still need to plan and be prepared and find out what we can and cant take on board. I think that is all people are doing on this thread.

I am remembering though, that all the passengers on the flight should be understanding that the kids have no entertainment, so hopefully will be more tolerant with any screaming, bored kids. There is nothing the parents can do, and I know I wont be the only ones in that boat, (or plane) so to speak.

Honestly if this becomes the new norm I don't see myself doing any more traveling by air. I've always carried shampoos, clothes, whatever I would need for at least a night in a travel carry on bag... I've had my luggage lost FAR too many times by various airlines to even begin to feel comfortable without the backups in my carryons. I can understand the necessity for it right this very moment, I'd rather be safe in the air than have my life in danger... but I think I'll stick to driving wherever I need to go from now on! And yes, that includes the 18/20 hour trip to Disney.

censorship? nice. sorry you were offended as well.

ZUH? I can't censor anybody. I'm just a guy, not the gov't. Just an FYI, censorship is a government action. Private citizens are free to tell other people whatever they want to. If I disagree with a statement (which I didn't), and I express said disagreement, this is called a disagreement, not censorship. When the privately run DISboard locks the thread because of profanity, even though it used *** to block certain letters, it will not be censorship either. We, as users, agreed to terms of use, which prohibits profanity on the board. I've seen threads locked for much less. Ease up and rock steady.

to those that are concerned about meds, diaper rash cream, cold med for baby, etc... simply bring enough to use prior to boarding in your purse/carryon and put the remainder in your checked luggage... it's not rocket science... carry as little as possible on board with you (really, what *do* you need? your travel docs and some stuff to keep the kids from getting bored plus diaper changing equipment)... everything else will be waiting for you at the other end...

prescription meds... put all of one or two day's worth in a script bottle w/your name on it and put the rest in the monday/tuesday/wednesday containers in your checked luggage... bring a list of your meds and doses w/you in the event your checked luggage gets lost so you can have a local pharmacy get you replacements...

it's a total pita but it can be done smoothly if everyone cooperates...

No WAY am I going to trust an airline to get my meds to me safely after a flight. No WAY am I going to have to hassle with getting replacement meds at my destination. The smartest thing is to simply bring your original bottle with you. There's no problem with that.

Fine, I will rephrase my statement to say that the terorrists have won in some ways.

What I meant was that we can not sit around and think that as a nation we are going to be able to be at war with other nations without them wanting to respond and that there may be heighted response from other groups given the choices we have made. This would lead to heightened threat for Americans.

Can we still take cell phones and laptops?
We use the cell phones to keep track of each other in WDW.
Maybe we can check them with the flight attendants?

popcorn::

I am so thankfull that they were able to interecpt the attack. I understand that many are very upset about many 'comforts' being taken away. I am very glad I did not book us on a plane for out trip next month. We will be driving, and thats ok. I feel safer. Wonder if many will be driving now??

I know I sound clueless (I live in Canada, but we're flying out of buffalo), but what the hell happened?

With what nation were we at war in 1995 when the Phillipine government thwarted a similar plot to be executed on Asia to America flights?

With what nation were we at war in 1979 when the Iranians stormed our embassy and held our citizens hostage? What about the embassies in Africa, or the USS Cole or the first World Trade Center bombing or the Millenium bombing plot.

With what nation were we at war on 9/11/01?

As for this attempt, the 21 who have been arrested are of British birth. We certainly aren't at war with them. They may have Pakistani ties. Again, no war.

I expect our soldiers to be targets in Iraq and Afghanistan, and maybe even Germany (kidding), where we are at war. But folks who intentionally target civilians because they are civilians will have a special place in hell. There is no moral equivalence.

British police arrested 21 British born would be terrorists who allegedly were going to board 9 flights to America (NY, Washington, Cali) and blow them up in flight. They were planning to use liquid components that, standing alone were harmless, but assembled would presumably be explosive enough to bring down a big jet.

So now carry on bags are banned in the UK and liquids (except baby formula) are banned in the US. I think this is accurate.

Oxfordcircus - I see that you are frequently misinterpreting everything I say and your points have nothing to do with the topic anyway so I am done with you.

Did anyone else hear that you may be able to take things that you buy at an airport store in? I just saw that LAX may allow you to take things from the stores in the terminals. Not sure hoe that would work, but it is something.

"But folks who intentionally target civilians because they are civilians will have a special place in hell. There is no moral equivalence"

What moral equivalence are you speaking of? It was OK for the Bush administration to bomb the h*** out of Iraq and brag about his "shock and awe" campaign? To drop tons of cluster bombs/missiles etc on neighborhoods in Iraq claiming we were saving American's from a nuclear and WMD threat? To kill tens of thousands of innocent men, woman and children? I hope you don't still believe we were freeing them? Put on BBC news.
Or perhaps do you mean the rushing of bombs to Israel to bomb Lebanese civilians, 1,000 now dead? or Palestinian dead? No one's child is less in value then another. No ones. Not American, not Israeli, not Lebanese, Iraqi, Palestinian and so forth. Flame away! :firefight
I've had it with our Government's arrogance and superior attitude. George Bush should have been impeached a long time ago. Of course there is a bigger threat now!

No beverages - period.

I was so glad to see breastmilk exempted. I started worrying about that when I heard the no-liquids rule on the radio today. I know someone had a problem with that after 9-11, ugh!

I'm leaving from the Buffalo Airport on the 22, and coming back from the Orlando Airport on the 30. Is this event going to affect my flight in anyway? Should my family and I make preparations for stronger security, or do anything different like leave early? We're bringing my best friend, should we get a letter from her mom? I don't want anything to happen while we're at the airport that would keep us from leaving.

Thanks.

I'm not sure what a flame is, but I don't think the term includes debating. I will not concede that you or I or your children or my children should be targets because of the war in Iraq and certainly not what's going on in Lebanon. This is my point about moral equivalence. I just don't buy that our people are over there intentionally killing civilian men, women and children. It appears that you think they are. We will disagree on that. However, there is no debating the fact that terrorists intentionally try to kill as many civilians as possible simply because they are civilians. That's all. Now I'll go ask the next poster what they'll do on their first day in the parks.

Oh no!! The Liberals vs. the Conservatives.

Anywho... The U.S. is the best !! Yay!! :cheer2:

Midwest Airlines policy...put the gels, lotions etc in the checked in luggage.

End of story for that.

Don't you think all these precautions are a small price to pay to keep us and all your loved ones safe?
