Inhalers should be covered under the medical needs section of the new regulations. Please have a perscription with it.
My inhalers have the Rx information on the box. Bring the box with you and all is fine.

I would advise anyone planning to travel internationally and bring a laptop in checked baggage - leave it home or ship it! It will get stolen or broken, almost certainly, in your checked baggage.

Couldn't agree more! :thumbsup2 I wish that they would make 2 lines. Line #1 People who are just going to do what they are told and not try to ask 500 questions. Line #2 People who want to try to get any little thing on the plane that they can no matter how much time it takes and how long others have to wait behind them.

Unless you are litterally not going to survive without an item, it sounds like you should leave it in your checked bags to make things easier for everyone!

I couldn't agree more. I know folks feel like they don't pose a threat, but seriously, how's the TSA gonna know that? With the 5 year anniversary of 9/11 a month away, I wouldn't expect this surge of security to die down anytime soon. But given the relatively long history of this style of terrorism (dating at least back to 1994), coupled with this very specific threat, the ban on liquids will probably last for a long long time. It's time to suck it up and get along with life. There's very little we can't do without for the duration of a flight. I'm thinking the short list includes air and a few medications.

My family and I are traveling at the end of September. I would feel so much better if these security measure are implemented before, during, and after my trip and for anyone who is doing air travel.

I say this because in 1993 when the terrorists first bombed the World Trade Center, there was heightened security, police everywhere, guard dogs, etc. Just when we thought everything was back to normal.........September 11 happened.

Just goes to show that the terrorists are waiting patiently for the moment when we (Americans, British, or anybody who is not them) think everything is safe to do something. Example: September 11!!!!!!!

I am going to do what have to do to make things easy for airport security. Safety and wellness is key people. Especially when my family is involved. I think alot of you will agree.

Have a very safe and Happy vacation to those upcoming travelers. :thumbsup2 God bless!!!!

to those that are concerned about meds, diaper rash cream, cold med for baby, etc... simply bring enough to use prior to boarding in your purse/carryon and put the remainder in your checked luggage... it's not rocket science... carry as little as possible on board with you (really, what *do* you need? your travel docs and some stuff to keep the kids from getting bored plus diaper changing equipment)... everything else will be waiting for you at the other end...

i

prescription meds... put all of one or two day's worth in a script bottle w/your name on it and put the rest in the monday/tuesday/wednesday containers in your checked luggage... bring a list of your meds and doses w/you in the event your checked luggage gets lost so you can have a local pharmacy get you replacements...

I would disagree about the meds. If the bags get lost, it may be difficult to get medicine shipped in the timely manner that most folks need to take it. I saw tht if the name matches the passenger it will be fine. Just carry in the original container, not the pill boxes.

Now I know where the money I saved on buying park and airline tickets early is going...to buy all the non-essentials at Disney prices (not renting a car.)

DH and I travel alot internationally--buying shampoo or sunscreen in many foreign cities would have cost a fortune. (Actually I did have to buy feminine products in Alaska once and it cost 4 times as much as at home!)

Perhaps all this will have the airlines clamp down a little on the size of some carry-ons. I've seen carry-ons that are larger than my main suitcase! I am really concerned about not being able to take a reasonably sized carry-on with medication (I use mail-order and the original bottles are BIG, camera and even some jewelry. There is little security and things get stolen.

Why not ship your essentials to your hotel ahead of time. That way they will be there waiting for you when you arrive.

I was just thinking along these same lines...I'd rather put up with the PITA of security, instead of having no A because it got blown up by terrorists... :)

Probably the best bet is to call the airlines the day before you leave and ask specifically about the items you feel you must have with you. And then still be prepared for airport security to confiscate these items.

I do wonder how long these rules will be in effect. I usually only travel with a carry on and my purse since I hate checking luggage. I agree they seem a bit extreme (no chapstick?), but if it has to be done, I am all for it.

"Just goes to show that the terrorists are waiting patiently for the moment when we (Americans, British, or anybody who is not them) think everything is safe to do something. Example: September 11"

Millions of people around the world believe we are the terrorists.
The events post 9/11 have not done anything to change that opinion. We have blown up tens of thousands of innocent civilians and provided the bombs for other countries to do the same. Until it stops we will always be in danger. Violence begets violence.
I will be on an American Airlines flight next week. Is my anxiety heightened? Yes, more for my daughter. Recent events have enraged thousands making the current time period a more risky time to fly.
I can only pray that my work for peace in all corners of the world, as well as here in my birthplace, the USA, will allow God to look kindly on our flight.

Please stop the hatred and bloodshed, here and abroad!

I am flying on 8/18 and assume that all these measures will still be intact.

I plan to pack all of my gel/liquid items in my checked luggage. I will just put it in a ziploc before I pack. Also if the "rules" change by Monday, I would just consider shipping it via UPS. If electronics become banned that will be tough with kids that are used to DVDs and Gameboys on the plane, but we'd survive - thankful for Sudoku books! When we travel by plane that is the only time I buy People and Us magazines so I get caught up on what is going on in Hollywood!

I would like to think that most are just venting on this thread because it is not like you can't bring the stuff, you just need to check it. The other alternative would be not to fly, that is always an option and if the current rules are just that hard to live by, then seek alternative transportation.

I am so thankful that this plot was uncovered and although I am a little inconvenienced I will go through the security lines with a smile on my face.

I agree^^^^^^^^^^^^.
I am surpirsed by how many people are so worried about sunblock and other replaceable items. Let's not forget that there are men and women right now fighting for your right to complain about something so small! Items our troops would love to have!
The airlines are doing the right thing. And whether you agree with it or not it's happening!! Deal with it!
I, for one, am stoked that measures are being taken!!
God Bless America!!!!!

My concern in all this is that they are specifically stating that they will allow baby formula (and the terrorists won't try to disguase it as such?) on the plane.

Yet - children's OTC medication will not be allowed in the carry on - only labled prescription meds. This isn't a problem for us as our flights from providence are rarely over 4 hours including transfer time, but what about the kids traveling from the west coast?

I also assume this means inhalers will need to be labled also - dang li'l stickers refuse to stay put!

Ok everyone, what do you think about diaper rash cream? Baby girl needs it all the time (sensitive skin) and we're flying Monday....

Get a note from your doctor or prescription strength cream from the doctor.

The airlines are not doing anything. The government, in all its infinite wisdom, has made this decision (remember when tweezers were going to be used to bring down a plane?). The problem is, no matter how much you ban, there will always be something else. What's going to happen now is an airline collapse. An industry that posted its first positive quarter in many years is taking a tremendous hit today - I suppose the bright side is the Fed won't raise the rate at the next meeting. Who is going to fly with these restrictions in place longterm? In Britain they are now saying you can bring accepted items through security in a ziploc bag. Everything else needs to go into checked luggage. How long before the US adopts the same regulations? Of course, whether or not it will make you safer remains to be seen.

Has anyone heard anything about non-prescrip eyedrops? I have contacts & dry eye so I use eye drops quite often. Any suggestions. TIA

We fly in just under two weeks, and I agree it will be inconvient but I like to think about safety first and convience is secondary. I wish there was some way for me to avoid a carry on at all, but that's not likely, medicines and a five year old. I sure wish there wans't so much belly aching about something that could potentially save lives, or allieviate deaths.

As a nurse- I always recommend my patients who travel- leave the bulk of their medicines at home- but bring the needed doses with them.

Good advice, but I would suggest planning for a delay or flight cancelation too...A couple extra doses just in case. ;)

Ok, how long do you all think this will last? Not until September right? You know this is definately why we need to find the terrorists that are a threat, and close the borders to everyone trying to get in this country. I'm just so pissed.

This isn't going to go away. It is the new reality. Now we have to deal with it.

Oh, I agree with the the rest of what you wrote!
