Hi Everyone!:wave2:

Our DD5 has recently become VERY interested in the history of the United States, specifically the US Presidents. She got interested after seeing "Night at the Museum" and she immediately fell in love with Teddy Roosevelt. She has collected about twenty childrens' books about Presidents and she never seems to get tired of learning more about them.

We are planning a quick three day trip in May (for Star Wars Weekend), but we will spend one day in the Magic Kingdom. HoP is already at the top of her list. I know she'll love it (partially because she's watched it on YouTube over and over), but are there any other Presidential/US history tidbits around MK that are a must-see? I made dinner reservations for Liberty Tree Tavern because I know she'll really enjoy the food and atmosphere.

Thanks so much in advance!!!::yes::

Going to Epcot at all? She'll like the show at the American pavilion.

We're not going to make it to Epcot this trip.:(
She's been to Epcot twice, but it was before she was able to appreciate the history. That's a fabulous idea though! I think that might require another trip soon, right?!:scratchin:goodvibes Thank you!

If you find some time where you'll want to rest in air conditioned comfort then you might consider going. It's interesting for the first timer but it's also rather long and slow. There will be a lengthy opening narrative and then a few speeches while the presidents are out. The nice thing is that all of the presidents are introduced and they twitch and look around during the presentation.

You know your child best. Will she sit patiently during a quieter presentation?

She definitely will. She's enjoyed it in it's entirety on YouTube so I know seeing it in person will be even more exciting for her. She's very excited to see them all together and on the same stage. She's so silly! :p

Thank you for the response!:flower3:

Make sure to get a few minutes beofre the show and find the Cast Member who knows all the presidential trivia. He'll ask questions and give little presidential tidbits. He's actually more interesting than the show itself. I could hang out with that dude for hours! I don't know how often he is there, but he's been there every time I've done HoP.

She will love it!

My kids are all interested in History and they enjoyed it quite a bit.

Side note - our DD8 has loved the Presidents since she was about the same age. This may sound silly but we got her a $3 place mat at Walmart that has all the Presidents on it and the years they were in office. She is fascinated by this. I think I've seen them there recently - best $3 ever spent :thumbsup2

Oh my goodness!!! Thank you SO much for this tip!!!! She will LOVE this!!! I cannot wait to look for him! :cool1:

I am so glad to hear that someone else's daughter loves them too!!!:flower3:
You are not going to believe this, but my mom just bought her a Presidents placemat yesterday!!!! She has it at pre-k with her right now showing it off!:rotfl2::rotfl: I love it!!! Hey, great minds think alike, right?!?!:goodvibes

I think you've covered your bases! I just had to comment on this thread because it makes me so happy. I'm a US History teacher who has been in love with the Presidents and US History since I was 4. ;)

Hope your DD has lots of fun and continues to love learning about our Presidents!

Awww!!! Well, thank you!!!!:flower3: I'm embarrassed to admit that my husband and I really didn't know much about them, but she has gotten us both really interested. She's taught me lots about the Presidents and I love it!!

That's awesome that you've been interested in it since you were so little!!! Maybe she'll be where you are one day! :cheer2:

This made me smile - my 18 year old son had a placemat with the presidents on it when he was young, and he loved it - used it for years. :)

This Presidential placemat sounds like a HIT! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2 I hope my DD5 loves it as much as (and as long as) this!

I find Theodore Roosevelt intriguing as well.

They do discuss him in the Hall of Presidents as well as his Cousin FDR. Theodore Roosevelt also has a great section in the American Adventure with the Naturalist John Muir.

Either way she will be happy. I am a history buff and think that they are both worth seeing.

That is really great, Miranda, that she has such an interest at this young age. I always enjoyed historical things at a young age, and now as a guy at an old age, I still enjoy historical aspects, including the presidents. Nice to see you are encouraging her too. She will definitely enjoy HoP.

Would you mind recommending a couple of the books? DS10 is into history and I've been looking for some good books for him on the Presidents too. Thanks!!

He's usually near the entrance to the theater, but he'll move aorund the rotunda sometimes. Some people here know his name, but I don't remember it. He is easy to engage, and loves sharing his knowledge.

HOP is one of those attractions that are kind of polar (like/dislike) based on your personality.

If your daughter has seen it on youtube, and likes it, then I think she'll love the real thing. I'm very glad to have seen it, and have done it each of our 4 trips (I think). We go to WDW in Sept, so HOP has also been a very nice break from the heat too. Many on the Dis have commented that it's a great place for a power nap. :):)

However, it is not an action attraction, and for those that aren't all that impressed by history and patriotic themes, it can make for a long/boring show. the animatronics are very impressive though.

All 7 in our group have very much enjoyed it, though it's far from the first attraction we head to at the MK. :);)

The Hall of Presidents is my absolute favorite attraction and a must-do for me every visit. I may be in the minority, but I just love it.

Completely off topic, but OMG your daughter is adorable. Did you make the costumes?
